DALLAS (SMU) – No. 8 SMU took home all four Most Outstanding Player honors in Saturday's 13-5 win over No. 2 Oklahoma State at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
"The entire year, consistency has been our top priority and today really showed that when you pay attention to the little details, you're always going to come out on top," associate head coach
McKenzie Lantz said. "We are all very proud of this team and how they came to perform today to start the spring semester strong."
Starting on the Flat, SMU earned two points to Oklahoma State's three.
Vivian Yowan earned the first point, scoring an 80 and earning her second MOP honor of the year.
Miranda Seade won SMU's other point with a 78 to defeat her Cowgirl opponent by 11 points.
The Mustangs and Cowgirls split Horsemanship points after
Aubrey Alderman tied with her competitor at 76.
Mallory Vroegh went on to score a season-high 76 and win by five and a half points to earn a third point for SMU. In an MOP winning performance,
Megan Waldron earned a 75 to win the point over OSU's rider, who scored a 73.
At the halfway point, Oklahoma State led SMU 5-4 with Fences and Reining competition still to go. The SMU Fences and Reining squads went on to dominate the second half of the meet and didn't allow a single OSU point during the two events.
There were multiple high scores beat as SMU won its first Fences matchup of the season in a 4-0 final with
Devin Seek tying her competitor at 70. Â Yowan won her point by seven with a score of 85, a season high for her in the event.
Olivia Woodson tied her season high, 74, to earn the second point.
Tali DeJong and
Brett Burlington both earned career highs with scores of 86 and 88, respectively. Burlington was named the MOP for her performance for the first time this season.
The Mustangs took an 8-5 lead heading into Reining to finish out the day. All five athletes earned their points over the Cowgirls.
Jill Pfisthner earned a career-high 73.5 for the highest score of the event and her first MOP honor of the season.
Dani Latimer scored a 70.5 to secure SMU's win. Freshman
Taylor Zimmerman finished her ride with a 72 to win over her OSU opponent for the first Mustang point of her career.
Aubrey Alderman scored a 67.5 and
Holly Lansidel scored a 71 to complete the event sweep.
