SMU Splits Meets To Close Out Regular Season

FRESNO, Calif. (SMU) – No. 3 SMU split meets in Fresno, California and the Student Horse Center on Friday, winning 6-2 over Lynchburg after falling 11-8 versus No. 5 Fresno State and earned five total Most Outstanding Player honors to close out the regular season.

SMU AT FRESNO STATE
The Mustangs (7-4, 2-0 ECAC) got an early event win in Flat with a 3-2 final over the Bulldogs (8-5, 3-2 Big 12). Mary Elizabeth Cordia put SMU on the board first with a 76 over her competitor's 73. Olivia Woodson and Miranda Seade scored a 69 and 79, respectively, to secure the event win for the Mustangs. Seade's ride earned her third consecutive MOP honor.

Next up in Fences, Fresno State scored four of the five points to take a 6-3 lead heading into the halfway point of the meet. Haley Zimmerman earned SMU's lone point, winning 82-68.

SMU's second event win came in Horsemanship, defeating Fresno State, 3-2. Mallory Vroegh was the first point for the Mustangs, scoring a 76.5 to beat her opponent by 13.5 points. A 76 for Megan
Waldron put a second Horsemanship point on the board for SMU. Lily Anderson wrapped up SMU's points with a personal and team season-high score of 77 to earn her the MOP for the event.

Reining action closed out the day, with the Bulldogs winning the event, 3-1, after Taylor Zimmerman tied with her opponent at 71.5. Dani Latimer scored SMU's point and was named the MOP for the event with a 71. Fresno State's three event points secured the 11-8 win. The loss is the first of the spring season for the Mustangs.

SMU VS. LYNCHBURG
SMU's Jumping Seat only competition with Lynchburg started with Fences. The Mustangs (8-4, 2-0 ECAC) earned three of the four possible points over the Hornets (0-4) for the event. Devin Seek scored a 78, Elle Young scored a 71 and Yowan scored an 85 for the highest score of the event and the MOP honor.

Finishing out the day with Flat, SMU scored three points to Lynchburg's one. Madigan Eppink defeated her opponent by 21, scoring an 82 for her first career point with the Mustangs. She also earned the MOP honor for her performance. Yowan and Madi Johnson earned SMU's other two points with scores of 77 and 71, respectively, to secure the Mustang win.

The Mustangs are back in action March 26-28 for the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships in Harrington, Delaware.
