DALLAS (SMU) – SMU men's basketball will play a home-and-home series against Dayton during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. The first game is at Dayton's UD Arena on Nov. 29, 2020 with a return game to Moody Coliseum in 2021-22.
Last season, SMU finished 19-11 overall and 9-9 in The American.
Kendric Davis,
Tyson Jolly and
Isiaha Mike were named to the All-American Athletic Conference Third Team. Davis was also on the NABC All-District Second Team. SMU led the AAC in scoring (72.9), field goal percentage (45.1%), free-throw percentage (76.2%, 25th NCAA), assists (15.6, 19th NCAA) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2).
Dayton adds to a non-conference slate that already includes home games with UNLV, Georgia, Vanderbilt and Evansville. UD went 29-2, won the Atlantic 10 regular-season title and was ranked No. 3 in the final AP Top 25.
"We are very excited that Dayton has agreed to a home and home series," said Head Coach
Tim Jankovich. "They were a serious contender for the national championship this past year before the season was cut short."
The programs have met three times before. The last matchups were a home-and-home series in 2006-07 and 2007-08 that started in Dallas. The home team won each contest. The only previous meeting was an SMU victory in the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington during the 1956-57 season.
