Four Mustangs Named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. (GCAA/SMU) – Four Mustangs were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Wednesday.

Jackson Markham, Mac Meissner, Ollie Osborne and Justin Thompson all earned the honor. To be eligible at the Division I level, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point-average of 3.2. They must also have participated in 40% of the team's competitive rounds in 2019-20.

Markham graduated in May with a degree in applied physiology and sport management after lettering four seasons on the Hilltop. He set a 54-hole school record with a 16-under 200 at The Prestige Individual Tournament in February, winning the event by two strokes, and twice tied the fifth-best single-round in program history at 64 in his career.

Markham finished the abbreviated 2019-20 season with a 72.67 stroke average over 18 rounds and turned in scorecards of even par-or-better in half of his total rounds. He posted two top-25 finishes and five top-40 finishes.

Meissner picked up second-team All-America accolades from the GCAA, was a PING All-Central Region selection and was named CoSIDA Academic All-District. The finance major set the SMU single-season record in 2019-20 with a 70.44 stroke average over 18 rounds, averaging -1.06 below par. He won the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate and posted four total top-five finishes in six events. Overall, eight of his rounds were in the 60s, and 14 were par-or-better.

He is now a two-time All-American, ranks second in career scoring average and is one of 11 SMU golfers with multiple collegiate tournament victories since 1985. He was also named SMU's Male Student-Athlete of the Year.

Osborne turned in a 72.17 stroke average over 18 rounds this season, posting nine rounds of at least even par and five rounds in the 60s. He posted his best performance claiming medalist honors at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, where he fired an 8-under 205, which included a season-best 65.

The business major joins Meissner is one of 11 Mustang golfers with multiple collegiate tournament wins since 1985 and currently averages 73.22 strokes over 33 rounds.

PING All-Central Region selection Thompson averaged 70.93 strokes over 15 rounds this season, ranking him fifth on SMU's single-season list. He posted three top-10 finishes and averaged 0.47 strokes below par, becoming only the fifth SMU golfer to average under-par for an entire season. Overall, he posted nine rounds under par and six rounds in the 60s.

Thompson is majoring in statistical science with a minor in sport management and was just named the Executive Vice President for Internal Affairs on SMU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
