Mustangs Drop Road Match To No. 3 Texas

Jan 18

BOX SCORE

SMU women's tennis dropped a 7-0 road match to No. 3 Texas on Monday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center.

"We had a path during the match to put some scoreboard pressure on them and make it closer," said head coach Jeff Nevolo.  "Texas is a great team and you can't give them extra chances and free points. We have a hardworking young team that is eager to learn from today."

Texas won doubles behind wins on lines one and two. Claudia Bartolome and Winslow Huth jumped out to a 3-1 lead before falling 6-3. Jackie Nylander and Chandler Carter dropped their match to the 48th-ranked pairing of Collins/Sun.  Hadley Doyle and Nicole Petchey were up 5-2 on line three when the point was clinched for the Longhorns.

SMU faced ranked opponents on lines one through four in singles. Nylander played a tight first set on line one to No. 66 Stearns, 7-5, 6-0. Bartolome faced the 5th-ranked player in the country in a 6-1, 6-1 loss on No. 2.

Hadley Doyle lost her first set in a tiebreaker to No. 94 Sun and finished the match down, 7-6, 6-3. After losing the first 6-1, Petchey battled close in a 7-5 second-set defeat. Kiana Graham fell 6-0, 6-4 on No. 5 while Huth lost 6-3, 6-2 on line six.

The Mustangs return to their home courts on Friday for a doubleheader with McNeese slated for 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. SMU wraps up the weekend with a road showdown against No. 11 Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
