SMU visits UCF on Saturday. This is the first game for SMU since a 79-68 win at home versus Temple on Jan. 11. The Mustangs improved to 7-2 on the season and 3-2 in the American Athletic Conference with the victory over Temple.

Three of the next four games are away from Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs have won both road games so far this season, 66-64 at Dayton on Dec. 5 and 79-71 at Temple on Dec. 30. 

In the last outing, a 79-68 win against Temple on Jan. 11, Feron Hunt had a double-double of 18 points and 11 reboubnds while Kendric Davis scored 20 points and recorded 8 assists with 0 turnovers. The Mustangs held Temple to 39.3% from the field, the seventh time in nine games an opponent has been under 40%. The Mustangs also had a 44-31 rebound advantage, the plus 13 is the Mustangs' best in league play this season. Emmanuel Bandoumel scored 16 points, hitting a career-high four 3-pointers and Ethan Chargois had 12 points and 5 assists to give SMU four double-figure scorers.

AAC LEADERS: SMU leads the AAC in scoring (79.2), FG% (46.4), 3FG% (35.9), assists (17.1, 27th NCAA), 3FGs (8.2) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3). The Mustangs are second in scoring margin (+12.1) and blocked shots (5.0, 18th NCAA).

BALANCE: SMU nearly has five averaging double figures: Kendric Davis 19.1 (1st AAC), Feron Hunt 12.3 (13th), Emmanuel Bandoumel 11.9 (17th), Ethan Chargois 10.6 (19th), Darius McNeill 8.8.

QUICK HITS:
• Kendric Davis was named the AAC Player of the Week and ESPN National POTW on Dec. 7. He was on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll on Nov. 30, Dec. 21, Jan. 4 and Jan. 11. He was named to the weekly honor roll three times in 2019-20. Feron Hunt earned an AAC Weekly Honor Roll nod on Jan. 18. He was also a 3-time weekly honoree in 2019-20.

He also among the league leaders in FG% (52.1, 6th), 3FG% (43.3, 6th) and FT% (84.1, 6th AAC). He has 5 or more assists in 28 of 35 games as a Mustang (7 of 9 this season). He set the AAC record with 14 assists vs Cincinnati 1/7. In 2019-20, he averaged 14.2 points (8th AAC) and an AAC-best 6.7 assists (10th NCAA) with 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals. He was 88-103 on FTs (85.4%, 2nd AAC). His assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.7 led the AAC and ranked 19th nationally.

• Ethan Chargois is averaging 10.6 points (19th AAC, career high 12.4 in 2018-19) and has been in double figures in 6 of 9 games. He is averaging career highs of 6.3 rebounds (11th AAC, 6.2 in 2018-19), 1.1 steals (0.9 in 2018-19) and 3.4 assists (12th AAC, 1.9 in 2018-19) with a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio (9th). He has 969 career points (SMU has 41 1000-point scorers).

• Feron Hunt (AAC Weekly Honor Roll J18) is averaging 12.3 points (13th AAC), 8.7 rebounds (2nd AAC) and 1.2 blocks (4th AAC) while shooting 53.7% from the field (4th AAC). He has nine career double-doubles (four this season) and has 7 or more rebounds in 41 career games (8 of 9 this season).

• Charles Smith IV is 3rd in the AAC in 3FG% (46.7%, 14-30) while averaging 6.3 points and 1.7 rebounds.

• Tyson Jolly (2020-21 Preseason All-AAC Second Team, 2019-20 All-AAC Third Team): Has not played this season (personal reasons). Last season, averaged 14.5 points (7th AAC) and 6.2 rebounds (13th AAC) while shooting 45.8% overall (11th AAC) and 38.2% from three (7th AAC). He had 15+ points in 18 of 30 games and 20+ on six occasions. He also hit 78.0% on FTs (14th AAC), including a 10-10 performance in the 73-72 OT win over [20-19] Houston on Feb. 15.

• Three Mustangs have double-doubles this season: Feron Hunt (4), Kendric Davis (3) and Ethan Chargois. Five Mustangs recorded double-doubles last season (four returnees). Isiaha Mike (5), Tyson Jolly (5), Feron Hunt (4), Kendric Davis (3) and Ethan Chargois. Six times, two Mustangs had a double-double in the same game (4-2). That was the first time SMU has had at least five guys record a double-double since 2016-17. The SMU record is 7 different players in 1978-79. Six players accomplished it in 1977-78 and 1997-98.

• SMU started 6-0 this season after starting 8-0 last season, reaching at least 6-0 in back-to-back seasons for the second time in program history. The other was 1984-85 (9-0) and 1985-86 (6-0).

• SMU is 97-51 under Tim Jankovich and 68-17 at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs are 5-2 at Moody this season and 20-4 in the past 24 games at Moody Coliseum (4-2 this season).

• SMU is 51-12 in regular-season non-conference games under Tim Jankovich. The Mustangs are 41-4 at Moody Coliseum in those games, 3-4 in neutral-site games and 7-4 in true road games. 

• SMU is 69-44 in AAC play since start of 2014-15. The Mustangs are 43-15 at Moody Coliseum.

• SMU received a vote in four straight AP Top 25 Polls beginning Dec. 7. The Mustangs also received votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll 5 straight weeks (Dec. 7 to Jan. 4). The Mustangs have been ranked or receiving votes in the AP Poll in seven of the past eight seasons (2013-14 to 2020-21). 

• The Mustangs have had 15 All-American Athletic Conference honorees, the highest in the AAC, in the first seven seasons of the league. That includes four first-team selections.

LAST GAME (W, 79-68 vs Temple on Jan. 11): DALLAS -- — Kendric Davis had 20 points as SMU defeated Temple 79-68 on Monday. Feron Hunt had 18 points and 11 rebounds for SMU (7-2, 3-2 American Athletic Conference). Emmanuel Bandoumel added 16 points and 7 rebounds, and Ethan Chargois had 12 points and five assists. Brendan Barry had 17 points for the Owls (1-3, 0-3). Damian Dunn added 17 points, and J.P. Moorman II had eight rebounds. The Mustangs improve to 2-0 against the Owls this season. SMU defeated Temple 79-71 on Dec. 30.

THE SERIES VS. UCF (+ 12-10, H 8-2, A 3-7, N 1-1): The Mustangs and Knights have split the season each of the past two seasons. SMU did not fall in the first eight matchups as AAC opponents before UCF won three straight. SMU defeated the Knights 70-59 in their only American Athletic Conference Tournament matchup, a semifinal on March 11, 2017. The series started in 2005 when the two schools were members of Conference USA. (+10-10 officially, 7-2 home, 2-7 away; wins in 2013-14 vacated)

LAST SEASON VS UCF (W, 81-74 vs UCF on Jan. 8): DALLAS (AP) -- Kendric Davis scored 22 points as SMU defeated UCF 81-74. Davis was 11-for-14 at the foul line and had seven assists. Feron Hunt added 20 points with seven rebounds for the Mustangs, who have won four in a row. Isiaha Mike had 11 points and three blocks for SMU (12-2, 2-0 American Athletic Conference), Ethan Chargois added 11 points and seven rebounds. The Mustangs shot 13-of-24 -- or half their shooting -- from behind the arc. Matt Milon and Collin Smith each scored 19 points for the Knights (9-6, 0-3), whose losing streak stretched to four games. Ceasar DeJesus also had 19 points with five assists. (L, 61-58 at UCF on March 4) RLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Collin Smith scored 19 points and UCF scored the final five points of the game from the foul line to upset SMU 61-58 after blowing a 22-point first-half lead. Smith made three of the late free throws, including one in the final minute and Brandon Mahan closed out the scoring with 29.7 seconds to go. But SMU missed two shots and had a turnover after taking a 58-56 lead on a Kendric Davis 3-pointer to cap a 7-0 run with 1:47 remaining. Darin Green Jr. scored 13 points and Mahan added 12 for the Knights (15-14, 6-11). Smith was 9 of 11 from the foul line and grabbed seven rebounds. Tyson Jolly scored 14 points for the Mustangs (19-10, 9-8). Isiaha Mike added 13 points and Davis had 13 points and seven assists. Matt Milon opened the game with a 3-pointer, Green and Mahan hit two 3-pointers apiece and UCF scored the first 19 points of the game. SMU missed its first nine shots and didn't get on the board until the 11:08 mark. The lead reached 22 points with 3:30 to play and a late layup gave the Knights a 33-14 lead at the half. SMU was 4 of 20 from the field, missing all seven 3-point attempts, and had eight turnovers. UCF was 6 of 16 from distance. The Mustangs scored the first seven points of the second half and got within 42-35 on a Jolly 3 at the 12:29 mark. The rally was complete when Mike flushed a dunk, putting SMU on top 49-48 with 6:11 to play. SMU shot 60% in the second half while UCF shot 33%, going just 1 of 9 behind the arc. The Mustangs finished 16 of 16 from the foul line in the game, the fourth time in school history they had a perfect game with at least 10 makes.

He has had multiple blocks in 39 of 69 career games (3 of 5 this season). His 5 blocks at Temple tied the SMU record for blocks in an AAC game (Ben Moore 5 vs Cincinnati 1-7-2016).

HUNTING FOR REBOUNDS: Feron Hunt is averaging 8.7 rebounds (2nd AAC) and has at least 7 rebounds in 8 of 9 games this season. He has 7 or more rebounds in 41 of 71 career games. He has led the team 26 times in his career (6x this season after 10 each previous year). In 2019-20, Feron Hunt posted 6.7 rebounds (8th AAC) with 2.0 offensive rebounds (13th AAC). He had a season-high 13 rebounds vs New Orleans. Hunt shared the team lead in rebounding at 6.4 per game as a freshman. He was just the sixth Mustang to lead the team as a freshman. BUZZER-BEATING BANDOUMEL: Emmanuel Bandoumel hit a driving jumper with 0.2 on the clock for the 66-64 win at [-/rv] Dayton on Dec. 5. It was his second game winner. He hit a three with 30 seconds left in overtime for a 73-72 victory over [20/19] Houston on Feb. 15, 2020.

FIVE AND DIME: Kendric Davis is averaging 7.7 assists (1st AAC, 1st NCAA). He has 5 or more assists in 28 of 35 games at SMU (7 of 9 this season). He set the AAC record with 14 assists vs Cincinnati 1/7/21 and has notched 13 assists twice (vs Houston Baptist 12/2/20 & vs Tulane on 2/1/20). He had 5 or more assists in 14 straight games (11/27/19 to 1/25/20). That was the longest streak with at least 5 assists since the SMU-record of 16 by Butch Moore from 3/14/85 to 1/8/86. Davis' 6.7 assists led the AAC (10th NCAA) and had a league-best 2.7 assist-to-turnover ratio (19th NCAA).

That was the 19th time since 2010 a Division I player had at least 13 assists with no turnovers. PRESEASON ALL-AAC: Kendric Davis (first team) and Tyson Jolly (second team) were selected to preseason All-AAC teams. The Mustangs were picked to finish third in the conference race behind Houston and Memphis. Davis was an All-AAC Third-Team honoree last season after leading the league with 6.7 assists (10th NCAA) and a 2.7 assist-to-turnover ratio (19th NCAA). He was second for SMU in scoring at 14.2 points (8th AAC) while also averaging 4.1 rebounds. He shot 44.9% overall (12th AAC) and 85.4% on free throws (2nd AAC). Jolly was also All-AAC Third-Team last season after leading SMU in scoring at 14.5 points (7th AAC). He was third for SMU at 6.2 rebounds (13th AAC) and second with 2.3 assists per game. He shot 38.2% from three (7th AAC) and 78.0% at the free-throw line (14th AAC). 

HEAD COACH TIM JANKOVICH... is in his fifth season at the helm at SMU after four seasons as the associate head coach. He is in his 38th season as a collegiate coach, and his 16th as a head coach. As a head coach, he is 254-172 (.596) [97-51 at SMU (.655), including 68-17 (.800) at Moody Coliseum (started 36-0, second best in NCAA history)]. That includes a 104-64 mark at ISU where his teams recorded four top-three finishes in the Missouri Valley, reached the conference tournament final three times and earned four NIT bids. As an assistant or head coach, his teams are 628-375 (.626) with six regular season conference championships, four league tournament titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and eight NIT bids. This is his 12th season as the leader of a Division I program, including five as head coach at Illinois State (2007-12) and four at North Texas (1993-97). The 2017-18 Mustangs started 13-6 with three wins over ranked opponents, topping No. 2 Arizona in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, No. 14 USC at Moody Coliseum and No. 7 Wichita State on the road. In 2016-17, SMU finished 30-5 and No. 11 in the AP poll after winning The American regular season and tournament titles en route to the NCAA Tournament. In 2015-16, he coached the Mustangs to a 9-0 start as SMU was eventually the last unbeaten team in the country at 18-0, and winning the Las Vegas Classic title during the season-opening streak. The Mustangs went 25-5, finishing the season ranked No. 24 after reaching a high of No. 8. In 2014-15, the Mustangs claimed the AAC regular season and tournament championships en route to the NCAA Tournament. SMU was the top seed in the 2014 NIT, reaching the title game.

TROPHY CASE: Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Mustangs have added seven items to the trophy case. SMU won the 2014-15 and 2016-17 American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. SMU has also won 2019-20 Southwestern Showdown and the 2015-16 Las Vegas Classic. In 2013-14, SMU was the runner-up in the NIT.
