SMU hosts Temple on Monday at 2 p.m. This is the second matchup of the season with SMU winning 79-71 at Temple on Dec. 30. 

In the first meeting in Philadelphia, Darius McNeill had 17 points and Yor Anei had 14 points and five blocks. Kendric Davis and Emmanuel Bandoumel each had 13 points. Anei, McNeill and Charles Smith IV (8 points) combined for 39 points off the bench, the most SMU has had in an American Athletic Conference game.

The Mustangs are 4-2 at home this season and 19-4 in the past 23 games at Moody Coliseum. 

Kendric Davis set the American Athletic Conference record with 14 assists in the 76-69 loss to Cincinnati on Thursday. He also had 14 points to lead the Mustangs. Feron Hunt had a game-high 10 rebounds with 9 points. Emmanuel Bandoumel added 12 points and Darius McNeill had 10 points, 2 steals and a career-high-tying 6 rebounds. Your Anei had 3 blocks and 9 points off the bench.

AAC LEADERS: SMU leads the AAC in scoring (79.2), FG% (46.9), assists (17.5, 33rd NCAA) and 3FGs (7.9). The Mustangs are second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3) and scoring margin (+12.2) 3FG% (35.4).

BALANCE: SMU nearly has five averaging double figures: Kendric Davis 19.0 (1st AAC), Feron Hunt 11.6 (17th), Emmanuel Bandoumel 11.4 (18th), Ethan Chargois 10.4 (26th), Darius McNeill 9.6.

• Kendric Davis was named the AAC Player of the Week and ESPN National POTW on Dec. 7. He was on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll on Nov. 30, Dec. 21 and Jan. 4. In 2019-20, four different Mustangs earned 10 spots on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll; Tyson Jolly (Nov. 11, Jan. 20), Isiaha Mike (Nov. 18, Dec. 23), Feron Hunt (Nov. 25, Dec. 30, Feb. 17), Kendric Davis (Jan. 6, Jan. 13, Jan. 27).

He also among the league leaders in FG% (52.9, 5th), 3FG% (46.2, 4th) and FT% (83.3, 5th AAC). He has 5 or more assists in 27 of 34 games as a Mustang (6 of 8 this season). He set the AAC record with 14 assists vs Cincinnati 1/7. In 2019-20, he averaged 14.2 points (8th AAC) and an AAC-best 6.7 assists (10th NCAA) with 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals. He was 88-103 on FTs (85.4%, 2nd AAC). His assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.7 led the AAC and ranked 19th nationally.

• Ethan Chargois is averaging 10.4 points (26th AAC, career high 12.4 in 2018-19) and has been in double figures in 5 of 8 games. He is averaging career highs of 6.8 rebounds (10th AAC, 6.2 in 2018-19), 1.3 steals (10th AAC, 0.9 in 2018-19) and 3.3 assists (13th AAC, 1.9 in 2018-19) with a 1.7 assist-to-turnover ratio (8th). He has 957 career points (SMU has 41 1000-point scorers).


• Feron Hunt is averaging 11.6 points (17th AAC), 8.4 rebounds (3rd AAC) and 1.4 blocks (4th AAC) while shooting 55.9% from the field (4th AAC). He has eight career double-doubles (three this season) and has 7 or more rebounds in 40 career games (7 of 8 this season).

• Charles Smith IV is tied for 4th in the AAC in 3FG% (46.2%, 12-26) while averaging 6.4 points and 1.8 rebounds.

• Tyson Jolly (2020-21 Preseason All-AAC Second Team, 2019-20 All-AAC Third Team): Has not played this season (personal reasons). Last season, averaged 14.5 points (7th AAC) and 6.2 rebounds (13th AAC) while shooting 45.8% overall (11th AAC) and 38.2% from three (7th AAC). He had 15+ points in 18 of 30 games and 20+ on six occasions. He also hit 78.0% on FTs (14th AAC), including a 10-10 performance in the 73-72 OT win over [20-19] Houston on Feb. 15.

• Three Mustangs have double-doubles already this season: Feron Hunt (3), Kendric Davis (3) and Ethan Chargois. Five Mustangs recorded double-doubles last season (four returnees). Isiaha Mike (5), Tyson Jolly (5), Feron Hunt (4), Kendric Davis (3) and Ethan Chargois. Six times, two Mustangs had a double-double in the same game (4-2). That was the first time SMU has had at least five guys record a double-double since 2016-17. The SMU record is 7 different players in 1978-79. Six players accomplished it in 1977-78 and 1997-98.

• SMU is 96-51 under Tim Jankovich and 67-17 at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs are 19-4 in the past 23 games at Moody Coliseum (4-2 this season).

• SMU is 51-12 in regular-season non-conference games under Tim Jankovich. The Mustangs are 41-4 at Moody Coliseum in those games, 3-4 in neutral-site games and 7-4 in true road games. 

• SMU is 68-44 in AAC play since start of 2014-15. The Mustangs are 42-15 at Moody Coliseum.

• SMU received a vote in four straight AP Top 25 Polls beginning Dec. 7. The Mustangs have also received votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll the past 5 weeks (beginning Dec. 7). The Mustangs have been ranked or receiving votes in the AP Poll in seven of the past eight seasons (2013-14 to 2020-21). 

• SMU has 7 wins against AP Top 25 teams under Tim Jankovich (18 games). That is second at SMU. Doc Hayes had 13 from 1947-67.

•  SMU has won four total American Athletic Conference Championships, winning the regular season and tournament titles in 2015 and 2017.

•  SMU has had three players selected in the NBA Draft since 2017. Sterling Brown and Semi Ojeleye in 2017 and Shake Milton in 2018. Jahmal McMurray was selected in the 2019 NBA G-League Draft and is with the Texas Legends, the affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks. Ben Moore play for Indiana, San Antonio and in the G-League for Fort Wayne, the affiliate of the Indiana Pacers.

• The Mustangs have had 15 All-American Athletic Conference honorees, the highest in the AAC, in the first seven seasons of the league. That includes four first-team selections.

LAST GAME (L, 76-69 vs Cincinnati on Jan. 7): DALLAS (AP) -- Jeremiah Davenport had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead five Cincinnati players in double figures as the Bearcats topped SMU 76-69 on Thursday night. Tari Eason and Mika Adams-Woods added 14 points apiece for the Bearcats (3-6, 1/3 American Athletic Conference). Zach Harvey chipped in 13 points, and Keith Williams had 12. Eason also had four blocks. Kendric Davis had 14 points and an AAC-record 14 assists for the Mustangs (6-2, 2-2). Emmanuel Bandoumel added 12 points. Darius McNeill had 10 points and six rebounds.

SERIES VS. TEMPLE (8-7) (7-7+): SMU won the first game of this season at Temple on Dec. 30, 79-71. The two split last season, with SMU winning at home Jan. 18 and losing at Temple Feb. 8 in overtime. They were set to meet in the first round of The American Championship before the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19. The Mustangs have lost a single meeting to Temple each in 2017-18 and 2018-19 after sweeping the Owls in 2016-17. During the 2014-15 season, SMU swept hree matchups with the Owls, including a 69-56 win on March 14, 2015 at The American Tournament. Prior to the AAC, they last met when Temple defeated SMU 90-81 in the third place game of the NCAA tournament on March 23, 1956. The first game in the series came Jan. 7, 1938 when Temple won 53-41 at home. (+7-7 officially)

LAST MEETING VS TEMPLE (W, 79-71 at Temple on Dec. 30): PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Darius McNeill had 17 points off the bench to lift SMU to a 79-71 win over Temple. Yor Anei had 14 points and five blocks for SMU (6-0, 2-0 American Athletic Conference). Kendric Davis and Emmanuel Bandoumel each had 13 points. Ethan Chargois, who was second on the Mustangs in scoring heading into the matchup with 13 points per game, was held to only four points (2 of 10). Brendan Barry had 17 points for the Owls (1-2, 0-2). Damian Dunn added 15 points and Jeremiah Williams had 13. J.P. Moorman II, who was second on the Owls in scoring heading into the contest with 11 points per game, shot only 17% for the game (2 of 12).

BALANCED SCORING: SMU nearly has five averaging double figures: Kendric Davis 19.0 (1st AAC), Feron Hunt (11.6, 17th AAC), Emmanuel Bandoumel 11.4 (18th), Ethan Chargois 10.4 (26th), Darius McNeill 9.6. SMU has had five finish in double figures seven times (1955-56, 1966-67, 1971-72, 1974-75, 1975-76, 2015-16, 2017-18).

RETURN TO SENDER: Yor Anei has 12 blocks in his first 4 games at SMU. He is averaging 2.31 blocks for his career, which is 8th among active student-athletes. He has had multiple blocks in 39 of 68 career games (3 of 4 this season). His 5 blocks at Temple tied the SMU record for blocks in an AAC game (Ben Moore 5 vs Cincinnati 1-7-2016).

BUZZER-BEATING BANDOUMEL: Emmanuel Bandoumel hit a driving jumper with 0.2 on the clock for the 66-64 win at [-/rv] Dayton on Dec. 5. It was his second game winner. He hit a three with 30 seconds left in overtime for a 73-72 victory over [20/19] Houston on Feb. 15, 2020.

LOCKED IN: Feron Hunt has shot 55.6% for his career (4th at SMU). He is at 55.9% so far this season (4th AAC) after 55.4% as a freshman and 55.7% as a sophomore.

HUNTING FOR REBOUNDS: Feron Hunt is averaging 8.4 rebounds (3rd AAC) and has at least 7 rebounds in 7 of 8 games this season. He has 7 or more rebounds in 40 of 70 career games. He has led the team 25 times in his career (5x this season after 10 each previous year). In 2019-20, Feron Hunt posted 6.7 rebounds (8th AAC) with 2.0 offensive rebounds (13th AAC). He had a season-high 13 rebounds vs New Orleans. Hunt shared the team lead in rebounding at 6.4 per game as a freshman. He was just the sixth Mustang to lead the team as a freshman. FIVE AND DIME: Kendric Davis is averaging 7.6 assists (1st AAC, 7th NCAA). He has 5 or more assists in 27 of 34 games at SMU (6 of 8 this season). He set the AAC record with 14 assists vs Cincinnati 1/7/21 and has notched 13 assists twice (vs Houston Baptist 12/2/20 & vs Tulane on 2/1/20). He had 5 or more assists in 14 straight games (11/27/19 to 1/25/20). That was the longest streak with at least 5 assists since the SMU-record of 16 by Butch Moore from 3/14/85 to 1/8/86. Davis' 6.7 assists led the AAC (10th NCAA) and had a league-best 2.7 assist-to-turnover ratio (19th NCAA).

MOODY MAGIC: The Mustangs are 19-4 in the past 23 games at Moody Coliseum after going 15-2 at home last season. That was the seventh time in program history that SMU has successfully defended home court at least 15 times. Five of those are in the past seven seasons. Since Moody Coliseum re-opened for the 2014 American Athletic Conference schedule, SMU has successfully defended home court 104 times in 125 contests.

HEAD COACH TIM JANKOVICH... is in his fifth season at the helm at SMU after four seasons as the associate head coach. He is in his 38th season as a collegiate coach, and his 16th as a head coach. As a head coach, he is 253-172 (.595) [96-51 at SMU (.653), including 67-17 (.798) at Moody Coliseum (started 36-0, second best in NCAA history)]. That includes a 104-64 mark at ISU where his teams recorded four top-three finishes in the Missouri Valley, reached the conference tournament final three times and earned four NIT bids. As an assistant or head coach, his teams are 628-375 (.626) with six regular season conference championships, four league tournament titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and eight NIT bids. This is his 12th season as the leader of a Division I program, including five as head coach at Illinois State (2007-12) and four at North Texas (1993-97). The 2017-18 Mustangs started 13-6 with three wins over ranked opponents, topping No. 2 Arizona in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, No. 14 USC at Moody Coliseum and No. 7 Wichita State on the road. In 2016-17, SMU finished 30-5 and No. 11 in the AP poll after winning The American regular season and tournament titles en route to the NCAA Tournament. In 2015-16, he coached the Mustangs to a 9-0 start as SMU was eventually the last unbeaten team in the country at 18-0, and winning the Las Vegas Classic title during the season-opening streak. The Mustangs went 25-5, finishing the season ranked No. 24 after reaching a high of No. 8. In 2014-15, the Mustangs claimed the AAC regular season and tournament championships en route to the NCAA Tournament. SMU was the top seed in the 2014 NIT, reaching the title game.

CALL IT A COMEBACK: SMU has rallied from a 10-plus point deficit to win 11 times under Tim Jankovich. That includes a pair of 15-point comeback wins.

TROPHY CASE: Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Mustangs have added seven items to the trophy case. SMU won the 2014-15 and 2016-17 American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. SMU has also won 2019-20 Southwestern Showdown and the 2015-16 Las Vegas Classic. In 2013-14, SMU was the runner-up in the NIT.


COACHING FOR LITERACY (CoachingForLiteracy.org): This will be the seventh straight season SMU has hosted a CFL game (Feb. 17 vs Tulane). The Mustangs will also participate on the road at Memphis on Jan. 14. Jonathan Wilfong (SMU '17) and Andrew Renshaw, two then-high school seniors from Memphis, Tennessee, founded Coaching for Literacy in 2012. Proceeds raised from the event go towards funding effective literacy programs focused on helping elementary and middle school students. Coaching for Literacy partners with collegiate and professional sports teams. --- The mission of Coaching for Literacy is to increase awareness about the number of people in America who are functionally or totally illiterate and the social problems associated with illiteracy. By leveraging the unique power of collegiate and professional sports, Coaching for Literacy raises money to supports effective local literacy programs and schools focused on educating elementary and middle school students. SMU hosted two CFL events in 2014-15, two in 2015-16 and one in 2016-17, 2017-18,  2018-19 and 2019-20. In 2016-17, the SMU staff wore neon green ties during a three-game stretch as part of the awareness effort from the home win against Stanford on Dec. 19 through the win a Memphis, WIlfong's home town, on Dec. 27.
