Mustangs Pick Up Five Wins In Loss To Rice

DALLAS (SMU) –
The Mustangs registered four individual wins and took the closing relay in a 155-106 loss to Rice on Saturday at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.

Jenna Watson continued her impressive weekend with a pair of wins, while Maddy Lewis and Alex Stevens also picked up victories for SMU.

Watson won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.04) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.34) for the second straight meet. Julia Yakushi joined Watson in the top three of the 200 breast, placing third in 2:23.41.

Lewis clocked a 1:04.96 for the win in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Stevens turned in a 51.24 to win the 100-yard freestyle. Indra Vandenbussche was the runner-up in the 100 free, finishing in 52.53.

Stevens, Johanna Gudmundsdottir, Vandenbussche and Gabi Grobler teamed up for the win in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.20).

Annabelle Corcoran led the Mustangs in the 1,000-yard freestyle, covering the distance in 10:35.27 for second place, and Katie Jordan finished third in the event at 10:48.12.

SMU also saw runner-up finishes from Gudmundsdottir (50 free, 24.02), Grobler (200 back, 2:06.09) and Jordan (500 free, 5:06.10).

The teams did not compete in diving as Rice does not sponsor the event.

The Mustangs are back in action Jan. 21 at Texas A&M. The meet is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
