DALLAS (SMU) – SMU holds a five-shot lead as a team at -16, while
Noah Goodwin leads the field at 10-under, after two rounds at the Trinity Forest Invitational Monday.
"Coach Wilkins and I are proud of the guys for fighting hard out there with the north wind that kicked up this afternoon," Head Coach
Chris Parra said. "We have a chance to get a nice win and SMU's second team has a chance with a good round tomorrow to finish top three."
Preseason Haskins Award candidate Goodwin signed for a 6-under 65 in the second round, which included eight birdies, to lead the 77-golfer field. His 10-under after 36 holes is four strokes ahead of teammate
Ollie Osborne, who is tied for second.
Goodwin leads the field with 13 birdies, while Osborne has collected 11.
Osborne matched Goodwin's 6-under in the second round to climb 17 spots on the leaderboard heading into Tuesday's final round. The junior is 6-under 136.
Holden Wisener also had an impressive second round, climbing 20 spots with a 2-under 69. His 36-hole -1 places him tied for 13th.
Rounding out the line-up on SMU's A team were
Ben Wong (T21, +1) and
Nathan Petronzio (T51, +7).
SMU's B squad heads into the final 18 at +4, good for sixth on the leaderboard.
Alex Valenzuela leads the group at 1-under, which included a four-birdie first round, and tied for 13th.
Prescott Butler and
Dawson Ovard signed identical score cards on the day, going 72-71—143. The +1 puts the duo in a tie for 21st.
Trip Carter (T34) was even-par in the second round to bring his day one total to +3, and
Tyson Dinsmore rounded out the group at +8.
UT Arlington sits second at -11, while Little Rock rounds out the top teams at -2.
SMU looks to defend its title at the event with the final round set for Tuesday. SMU A is set to tee off starting at 9:30 a.m. CT on No. 1 and SMU B at 8:45. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.
