Orlando, Fla. – SMU fell to UCF (25-16, 25-21, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon. The Knights hit .298 and were led by McKenna Melville who finished with a game-high 17 kills.
Hannah Jacobs and
Rachel Woulfe both paced the Mustangs with eight kills each.
UCF jumped out to a 15-6 advantage to begin the match and took the opening set.
Set two saw five ties early in the match as both teams traded points. Jacobs tied the set up at five with a big swing and a kill and SMU later found a 6-5 lead. UCF found a 7-0 scoring run to go up 12-6. The Knights grew their lead to 21-13. The Mustangs found a hot streak with a 6-0 run capped off with a
Jadyn Bauss ace to force the UCF timeout (21-19). Both teams found points down the stretch, but the early lead for UCF held up in set two.
UCF led 13-9 in the third set, but the Mustangs came roaring back with four straight points to even up the set. The Knights put together small rallies to take the conference victory.
Zairyn Hemsley dished out 31 assists from the setter position, while
Bria' Merchant manned the back-line notching 14 digs as the libero.
