Kendric Davis Named The American Player Of The Week

IRVING, Texas (SMU/American Athletic Conference) – Kendric Davis was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Davis averaged 24.3 points, 5.7 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals as the Mustangs went 2-1. He shot 22-of-38 (57.9%) from the field, 9-of-18 (50.0%) from 3-point range and 20-of-23 (87.0%) at the free-throw line. He had a season-high 29 points (10-15 FG, 4-6 3FG, 5-6 FT) in the overtime loss to Missouri in the Jacksonville Classic on Sunday.

This is Davis' third career AAC Player of the Week award, which ties Shake Milton for the most in The American by a Mustang. It his 12th conference weekly honor, which is second only to Nic Moore's 20 AAC weekly award selections.

Davis is on the 2021-22 Wooden Award Watch List, Naismith Trophy Watch List, Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award Watch List, Lute Olson National Player of the Year Watch List and was a unanimous preseason All-American Athletic Conference First-Team selection.

Through five games this season, Davis is averaging 20.0 points (4th AAC, 37th NCAA), 5.4 assists (1st AAC, 35th NCAA), 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting 48.3% overall (6th AAC), 39.3% on threes and 89.2% on free throws (3rd AAC).
 
Last season, Davis was selected unanimous All-AAC First Team, NABC All-District First Team and USBWA All-District. He was also one of 35 named to the Lute Olson National Player of the Year Mid-Season Watch List. Davis averaged 19.0 points (1st AAC, 44th NCAA), 7.6 assists (1st AAC, 4th NCAA), 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals (4th AAC) with a 3.2 assist-to-turnover ratio (1st AAC, 10th NCAA). He also was among the league leaders in FG% (48.1, 7th AAC), 3FG% (37.3, 12th AAC) and FT% (83.3, 5th AAC). He had five points-assists double-doubles, and was the only player in the country to lead his league in both scoring and assists. Davis was also twice named AAC Player of the Week in 2020-21 with six additional appearances on The American weekly honor roll.
