Mustangs Take Down Tulsa 3-1 In Regular Season Finale

TULSA, Okla. – SMU beat Tulsa in four sets (25-18, 25-27, 28-26, 26-24) on Friday afternoon in the regular season finale. Jadyn Bauss had big day notching 22 kills and 18 digs while Rachel Woulfe added 18 more kills. Kaylyn Winkler and Hannah Jacobs combined for 24 kills, while Bria' Merchant defensively shined with 26 digs. SMU finished the regular season winning 11 of the last 14 conference matches and completed American Athletic Conference play tied for third.

Both teams fought back-and-forth in this tightly contested AAC matchup. SMU (18-12, 14-6 AAC) found a 13-9 advantage with a 4-0 scoring run to grab the first major lead on the day. The Mustangs grew this lead to 19-11 taking six of the next seven points. Bauss and Jacobs had key kills down the stretch to give SMU the early road advantage.

After dropping the second set in extra points, SMU once again had a solid lead (12-7) in the third. Tulsa came all the way back to tie the set up at 24-24. SMU held tough defensively and later took the set after Tulsa committed three errors in the last few points.

Both teams were knotted at 9-9 in the fourth set. Tulsa had a small rally to take a 19-17 advantage. Woulfe and Kaitlyn Knobbe had consecutive kills to tie the set up once again (21-21). Tulsa did not let up as the Golden Hurricane forced two more ties. Once again in extra points SMU dug deep and gathered consecutive kills from Wheeler to take the road victory.

Lily Heim and Zairyn Hemsley dished out 31 assists each on the day at the setter position. Knobbe has a personal-best four kills and two digs in the contest.

Kaylee Cassaday led the Golden Hurricane with 20 kills, while Marta Pecalli notched 25 digs.
