No. 7 Mustangs Split Results In Fresno On Saturday

FRESNO, Calif. (SMU)
– No. 7 SMU split two results on Saturday at Fresno State's Student Horse Center. The Mustangs claimed a 10-5 victory over No. 1 Oklahoma State before falling 11-7 to host No. 6 Fresno State. Four Mustangs were named Most Outstanding Performers (MOP) for their stellar rides over the two matchups.

After starting their competition with two events on Friday, SMU (4-4, 2-1 ECAC) handed Oklahoma State (4-1, 3-0 Big 12) its first loss of the season.

The two competed in Flat and Horsemanship on Friday evening, where SMU gained a 5-3 lead. In Flat, Taylor Madden and Miranda Seade both won their points with scores of 68.5 and 84, respectively. Over on the Western side, the Mustangs took three of the four possible points with Lily Anderson leading the way. Anderson posted an event-high score of 74 to earn the MOP honor. Nya Kearns scored a 73.5 and Mallory Vroegh posted a 73 to round out the event.

Action started back up on Saturday morning with Fences and Reining. SMU took the Fences win, 2-1, after Devin Seek tied her opponent at 83. Alex Pielet rode to an MOP-winning score of 86 to win the first point of the event and was followed by Emma Jolly, who won her point 84-80.

The Mustangs sealed the deal by finishing with a 3-1 win in Reining. The first point went to Jill Pfisthner, who topped her opponent 70-67.5. Taylor Zimmerman was next as she posted a 71.5 and received the MOP honor. Chalyce Head rounded things out for SMU with a 71, securing the 10-5 win.

Shortly after finishing up against Oklahoma State, SMU took on host Fresno State (4-3, 1-1 Big 12) in another full four-event meet.

The Bulldogs took three points in Fences for their first event win, however it was Mustang freshman Elli Yeager who claimed the MOP title after riding to a score of 83. Devin Seek won the second SMU point, 83-80.

In Horsemanship, the Mustangs claimed a 3-2 victory to tie the matchup at five apiece at the halfway point. Megan Waldron claimed the first point after posting a score of 75.5 and was followed by Vroegh and Payton Neiberger who tallied scores of 73 and 74.5, respectively.

Fresno State pulled away in the second of the afternoon's meet with a 4-1 win in Flat before claiming a slim 2-1 victory in Reining. Madden won the sole Mustang point in Flat with an impressive score of 85.5 while Pfisthner claimed the point in Reining with a 69.5.

SMU finishes its fall slate on Nov. 19 when they host Fresno State at the Dallas Equestrian Center starting at 10 a.m. CT.
