Mustangs Post Nine Top-7s At SpeedCity Series

RESULTS

 

HOUSTON (SMU) - SMU track & field posted nine top-seven performances during the second trip to the H-Town SpeedCity Series on Saturday from the University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse.

 

Funminiyi Olajide repeated as champion of the long jump at the SpeedCity Series. The freshman jumped a distance of 6.16m on her second jump, 0.27 better than the next closest competitor. Olajide has the conference's best long jump of 2021, 6.17m. Raelyn Roberson set a new personal record with a distance of 5.66 in the long jump, good for a third-place showing.

 

On the track, Jordanae Scott advanced to the finals to the 60m while Roberson and Laye just missed out with times of 7.77 and 7.80 respectively. Scott finished in seventh during the finals with her time of 7.69

 

Scott also raced in the 200m, clocking in at 24.72 and finishing in fourth. Olivia Mars came in at 27.07 for 19th in the 200m.

 

In the distance races, a pair of first-year Mustangs represented SMU for the 800m. Madison Savoy finished in sixth with a time of 2:16.89 while Mackenzie Montandon came in 11th with her 2:30.27 time.

 

In the Mile, Tess Misgen and Leoni Mierswa both set PRs, finishing within a second of each other in sixth and seventh place.

 

Four Mustangs lined it up for the 3000m. Maddie Hulcy led the way with her PR of 10:15.41. Freshman Jessie Crowley clocked a 10:29.47, fellow freshman Mia Olsen ran a 10:37.38 and Olivia Lackner posted a time of 10:45.71.

 

 

In the final SMU event of the day, the Mustang Distance Medley Relay team of Mierswa, Brooke Shepherd, Savoy and Misgen finished in a time of 12:16.96.

 

In the team scoring portion of the event, the Mustangs managed to finish in 6th despite competing in less than half of the events.
