Mustangs In Second After Two Nights At AAC Championships

DALLAS (SMU) -- Taylor Ohlhauser registered the top individual performance of the night, and the Mustangs posted a runner-up finish in the 200-yard medley relay on night two of the American Athletic Conference Championships. The three-day event is taking place at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.
SMU sits second in the team standings with 498.5 points entering the final day of competition. Houston leads the field with 688. Cincinnati is third at 472 and Tulane fourth at 410.5.
Ohlhauser's runner-up performance on 3 meter was her second trip to the podium at the championships after finishing third on 1 meter opening night. The senior posted a six-round 318.70, only four points behind the event winner. Johanna Holloway joined Ohlhauser in the Championship Final, and finished fifth, while Nicole Stambo won the Consolation Final.
The evening opened with silver in the 200-yard medley relay as Gabi Grobler, Maddy Lewis, Maxine Parkinson and Alex Stevens teamed up for a 1:40.63.
The Mustangs also saw a top-three finish from freshman Maxine Parkinson in the 100-yard butterfly. She saved her best time of the season at 54.52 to finish third in Friday's Championship Final.
The top finisher for SMU in the 100-yard backstroke Championship Final was Gabi Grobler at 54.84 for fifth place.
SMU was led by freshman Maddy Lewis in the 100-yard breaststroke, who picked up sixth place points with a career-best showing of 1:02.71. The Mustangs went 1-2 in the Consolation Final, guided by a career-best 1:03.19 from Julia Yakushi. Parkinson was second, and 10th overall in the event, in a time of 1:03.65.
Jenna Watson was sixth in the 400-yard individual medley in her first conference championships, turning in her top season performance of 4:23.08 on Friday night.
