SMU cross country makes its long-awaited return to the course as they head to the American Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at 10 a.m. from the 4 Mile Creek Resort in Augusta, Kan.

The Mustangs return six runners from their 2019 squad including everyone who competed at the 2019 edition of the AAC Championship.

In 2019, the Mustangs placed ninth in the field with then junior Tess Misgen leading the way with a 35th-place performance. Lior Kremer and Maddie Hulcy finished not too far behind in 40th and 44th respectively. Sophomore Olivia Lackner finished in 51st with Eve Hoeltgen coming in 80th and Olivia Witt in 81st.

Misgen led the way for the Mustangs in four of their 2019 meets including the NCAA South Central Regional. Maddie Hulcy, in her first year as a Mustang, finished second at the Ken Garland Invite as the Mustangs won the event for the second-consecutive year.

The Mustangs feature four freshmen on their 2020 roster with Jessie Crowley, Kaitlyn Gearin, Mia Olsen and Leoni Mierswa.

Tulsa comes in as the defending AAC champions with a 37-point performance in 2019, 26 points better than second-place Wichita State who featured the individual winner, Winny Koskei. SMU was AAC Champs in 2013 and 2016 and boasted the individual winner in 2017, Hannah Miller.

The AAC will stream the event on ESPN+ with coverage of the women's race beginning at 9:50 a.m.
