DALLAS (SMU) – No. 4 SMU defeated Lynchburg, 5-3, in a jumping seat only meet on Friday at the Dallas Equestrian Center to start the doubleheader weekend with a win.
"I'm glad that we got some mistakes out of the way today and got some new faces in the lineup," head coach
Carol Gwin said. "Overall, today was a good learning experience and we will press on to try and beat Baylor tomorrow."
The Mustangs (5-1, 3-0 ECAC) started the day tying points in Flat with the Hornets (0-5, 0-2 ECAC), scoring two apiece.
Taylor Madden and
Olivia Woodson earned points for the Mustangs with scores of 72 and 84, respectively. Woodson's was the highest score of the event, earning her the Most Outstanding Player honor.
Woodson went undefeated on the day, winning the first SMU point in Fences with a score of 78.
Devin Seek scored a 73 and
Emma Jolly scored an 81 in her first appearance of the season to win the MOP award for the event and secure a 3-1 win in Fences.
SMU is back in action tomorrow, March 13, at the Dallas Equestrian Center. They take on No. 9 Baylor starting at 10 a.m. CT for Senior Day.
