OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - SMU competed in the Cardinal Invitational on Saturday. The Mustangs faced four teams on the day and came away with a sweep over No. 12 Wisconsin and (RV) Notre Dame. SMU also notched a victory in the 2V8 race against Wisconsin and No. 16 Alabama.

In the morning race SMU competed against (RV) Tennessee and Notre Dame. In the V8, the Mustangs finished six seconds ahead of the Irish at 6:24.4. SMU also finished six seconds ahead of Notre Dame in the V4a. Tennessee took the 2V8, but SMU beat Notre Dame by 15 seconds (6:33.2). SMU also competed in the V4b race and came away with a win over Notre Dame to complete the sweep over the Irish.

The same crews raced in the afternoon against No. 16. Alabama and No. 12 Wisconsin. In the V8, SMU edged Wisconsin 6:20.0 to 6:20.3. Alabama took the V4a, but the Mustangs beat out Wisconsin by 12 seconds. SMU won the 2V8 with a time of 6:25.7 with the next closest team coming in at 6:34.2. The Mustangs notched a time of 7:22.9 in the V4b. SMU posted faster times in the afternoon.
