WACO, Texas (NCEA/SMU) - SMU has been named the fourth seed for the 2021 National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championship, the
NCEA Selection Committee announced on Tuesday.
The top eight teams will compete in the 2021 National Championship in Waco, Texas from April 15 to 17 at the Extraco Events Center.
The Mustangs finished the regular season with a 6-1 record and went on to win the inaugural ECAC Conference Championship for their third consecutive conference title. SMU's No. 4 seed is the National Championship seed in program history.
SMU will face the No. 5 seed, Texas A&M, in the quarterfinal round in April and look to face either No. 1 Auburn or No. 8 Baylor with a win over the Aggies. Check out the full bracket
here.
Outside of the top 8, four teams (South Carolina, Delaware State, UT Martin and South Dakota State) are designated as replacement teams for the championship. If a team has to withdraw from championship play due to COVID-19 related issues, a replacement team will fill their spot in the bracket. The deadline for teams to be replaced is April 6. After April 6, if a team is unable to play, the competition will be counted as a "no contest" and the opponent will automatically advance.
