FINAL SCORESHEET

DALLAS (SMU)
– No. 8 SMU defeated No. 2 TCU, 11-3, and earned all four Most Outstanding Player honors on Friday at the Dallas Equestrian Center.

The Mustangs (3-1, 2-0 ECAC) swept both the Fences and Reining events over the Frogs (4-2, 1-1 BIG 12) to secure the win in the second half of the meet.

"While we didn't ride mistake-free, we were much improved over our last competitions and I feel like we are working toward our postseason goals with the ECAC conference championship and NCEA national championship coming up," head coach Carol Gwin said. "Shoutout to Amber Henter, our jumping seat coach, McKenzie Lantz, our western coach, and Matt Lantz, our volunteer coach, for having not only the girls, but the horses well-prepared to run a smooth and efficient competition."

SMU earned a point in Flat and two in Horsemanship to start the day. Taylor Madden rode to a Flat high score of 87 for her first career MOP while defeating her TCU opponent by 21 points.

In Horsemanship, Mallory Vroegh earned a point and her first MOP of the year with a season-high 77. She was joined by Nya Kearns, who scored a 75 to secure the 2-1 event-win for the Mustangs. SMU tied a point with TCU during both events and were tied at the halfway mark with three apiece.

Olivia Woodson earned the first Mustang point on the way to a sweep in Fences with an 82. Alex Pielet followed with a season-high score of 84 and Taylor Madden won the third point, scoring an 85. The event's MOP went to Devin Seek, who tied her season-high score of 86 for the highest score of Fences.

SMU closed out the day winning all four points in Reining with three Mustangs earning season-highs. Jill Pfisthner (71), Aubrey Alderman (71.5) and Taylor Zimmerman (70.5) all defeated their TCU opponents with their highest scores of the season so far. Dani Latimer scored a 70.5 to secure the event-sweep. Alderman won the Reining MOP award, her first of the season.

Friday marks the third time out of four meets that SMU has swept the MOP awards this season, bringing the total honors to 14.

"All four MOPs were really well-deserved and were really fantastic rides today," Gwin said.

SMU is back at the Dallas Equestrian Center on Saturday to face No. 5 Fresno State. Action will start at 10 a.m. CT.
