SMU Drops Match At UCF, 2-1

BOX SCORE

ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU)
– SMU dropped its second matchup against UCF this season on Saturday at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex.

The Mustangs (4-4-0, 4-4-0 AAC) dominated in the first half of play with seven shots against the Knights (6-3-0, 6-3-0 AAC), three of them being on goal.

SMU took the early lead when Papa Ndoye scored his fifth goal of the season in the third minute. Gabriel Costa sent the ball into the box off a set piece and found Ndoye, whose header hit the back of the net. The Mustang backline held strong and SMU took its 1-0 lead into the break.

The second half of action started slowly on both sides, with SMU's first chance coming in the 62nd minute when Nick Taylor's shot went out above the goal.

In the 64th minute, UCF's Lucca Dourado scored the equalizer. The Knights took the 2-1 lead with their second goal of the night when Gino Vivi scored in the 76th minute.

The Mustangs pushed for the equalizer during the final 15 minutes with two shots that just missed the frame and one from Costa that was saved.

SMU hosts two matches next week at the Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium in Dallas. The Mustangs face Tulsa on Tuesday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m. CT and Temple on Saturday, April 10 at 7 p.m. CT for Senior Day.
