ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU) - SMU women's tennis swept Wichita State, 4-0, in the quarterfinal of the American Athletic Conference Championships on Friday at the USTA National Campus. The Mustangs advance to Saturday's semifinal where they face No. 3 seed Tulsa at 9:30/10 a.m. CT.

Jeff Nevolo. "Hats off to them for coming to compete. We were able to get across the finish line today with some solid performances.  Excited to take on Tulsa in what will be a great semifinal match."

The Mustangs showed their fight early with a comeback doubles victory. The Shockers gained the first edge with a 6-2 win on line one.
Nicole Petchey and
Winslow Huth were down a break early, 3-1, but rallied for a 6-4 win on court three. Huth and Petchey have combined for 10 straight wins as a partnership.
Claudia Bartolome and
Chandler Carter were in a 1-4 hole on line two before they won six of seven to clinch the doubles point for SMU. The pairing of Bartolome & Carter have 12-1 record on the season.

The momentum continued into singles for SMU with first-set wins on five courts.

Jackie Nylander wasted no time putting the Mustangs in front by two. She won, 6-0, 6-1 in a speedy match on line one.

Bartolome won a pair of 6-3 sets on court four for her sixth-straight victory and her 14
th of the season. Petchey sent the Mustangs through to the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-4 win on the sixth court, her 16
th victory on the season. Petchey has a 5-0 record against AAC opponents on the year.

At the time of clinch, Huth was up a set on court three and Carter was just beginning set three.
Hadley Doyle dropped set one but responded with a 6-3 win in the second. She led 2-1 when the Mustangs secured the win.

SMU has won 17 of its last 20 matches on the season heading into Saturday's meeting with the Golden Hurricane. Earlier this season, SMU defeated then No. 49 Tulsa, 4-2, back at the SMU Tennis Complex on April 4. Tulsa is currently ranked No. 46 by the ITA and No. 47 by the coaches and have a 14-5 record. At line one, Martina Okalova is ranked No. 88 with a 13-3 record while in doubles, Okalova and Ploner are ranked No. 88 with just two losses this season.
