SARASOTA, Fla. – The SMU women's rowing team began its first day of the NCAA Championships with a record finish on Friday, May 28 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
 
The Mustangs' Second Varsity 8 won its repechage in a time of 6:34.367 to become the first boat in American Athletic Conference history to advance to the A/B semifinals. The top three boats from each semifinal on Saturday, May 29 will advance to the A final (places 1-6) and the bottom three crews will move on to the B final (places 7-12). The 2V8 finished third in its heat earlier in the day in 6:38.336, behind only Washington and Brown.
 
SMU's Varsity 8 placed fourth in its heat in 6:28.528 and third in the repechage in 6:25.285, less than half a second from first-place Princeton (6:24.797) and Syracuse in second (6:25.122).
 
The Mustang Varsity 4 placed fourth in both its heat (7:21.624) and repechage (7:31.697). Both the SMU Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 will compete in their respective C/D semifinals on Saturday.
