Swimming And Diving Programs Earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Honors

RICHMOND, Va. (CSCAA/SMU) – The SMU swimming and diving programs closed out the year with their second team academic awards of the season, earning spring Scholar All-America team honors from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
Teams were selected on the basis of their spring grade-point-average, and must have achieved a 3.0 GPA.
"Coaches Rhodenbaugh and Collins led the Mustangs to successful seasons both in the pool and in the classroom," noted CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart. "These are some of the best ambassadors of SMU and Athletic Director Hart, President Turner, and Dr. Paul Rogers (Faculty Athletic Representative) can and should be proud of these 67 men & women."
The Mustang women boasted a 3.61 GPA, up from the team's 3.59 mark in the fall. They added the accolades to a successful season in the pool, which saw the Mustangs earn runner-up honors at the American Athletic Conference Championship.
The men also improved as a team posting a 3.42, up from the fall's 3.26. The team won its first AAC Championship this season, and first overall conference title since 2013, and sent three student-athletes to the NCAA Championships.
The CSCAA will name its individual Scholar All-America team next week. To be selected as a member of the CSCAA Scholar All-America first team as an individual, swimmers and divers must have achieved a GPA of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.
