AUSTIN, Texas (CoSIDA/SMU) – Tyler Page was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) 2020-21 Academic All-America Football Team, the organization announced Monday.
The team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 GPA, have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games, have completed one full calendar year at his current institution and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
Page graduated with a degree in finance and boasted a 3.92 GPA. He was one of two wide receivers selected as a member of the second team.
In 2020, Page was selected as a Campbell Trophy Semifinalist, which annually recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. He was also a National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society selection, which honors student-athletes who have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
Page saw action in nine of SMU's 10 games last season, and was second on the team with 39 receptions for 422 yards and two touchdowns. His 4.3 receptions per game ranked ninth in the American Athletic Conference.
He registered 12 punt returns for 182 yards, with his average of 15.2 ranking fourth in the nation and second in the AAC. Overall, he finished fourth on the team with 616 all-purpose yards.
Page has been an AAC All-Academic Team selection following each of his seasons on the Hilltop and has been named to SMU's Honor Roll with High Distinction, Distinction or Honor each year. As a junior, he was on the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, which is given to the college football player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Page becomes the first Academic All-America selection for the Mustangs since Will Hopkins and Josh Williams were recognized in 2017.
