Cross Country Earns AAC Team Academic Excellence Award

IRVING, Texas (The American/SMU) - SMU cross country earned the American Athletic Conference Team Excellence Award for 2020-21 announced by the conference office on Thursday.Â
All nine members of the SMU cross country team garnered All-Academic AAC Honors during the season leading to their conference-leading GPA. The Mustang cross country squad also took home the top honor in the 2019-20 season. The team was also awarded the SMU Highest Women's GPA honor for the standout year in the classroom.Â
On the course in 2020-21, the team competed in the delayed season during the spring semester racing at the AAC Championships in Kansas. The Mustangs took home seventh place, a two spot improvement over the previous season, with a roster featuring seven of nine underclassmen.Â
The AAC Team Academic Excellence Award selections are made by the conference's faculty athletics representatives. The winning teams were chosen based on the 2020-21 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster at the end of the academic year, weighing each student's GPA by credit-hour completed.
