The SMU women's swimming and diving team is back in action on Friday when it travels to College Station, Texas, to take on No. 22 Texas A&M. Action against the Aggies is slated to begin at 5 p.m. at the Rec Center Natatorium with live streaming on the SEC Network+.
Last Time Out
SMU swept a dual weekend Jan. 14 and 15, posting wins against North Texas and American Athletic Conference foe Tulane. SMU won all 13 events against UNT, posting event sweeps in five of 11 swimming events. Against Tulane, the Mustangs won 12 of 16 total events.
Scouting The Aggies
Texas A&M is ranked No. 22 in the latest edition of the CSCAA Division I Top 25 Poll. The Aggies are 4-1 in dual action this season, with wins over Houston, TCU, Rice and LSU. Their lone loss came against then-No. 5 Texas.
Dualing It Out
The Mustangs are 5-1 in dual action this season with wins over TCU, New Mexico State, Rice, UNT and Tulane. The win total gives the Mustangs their most dual wins since going 5-2 in 2011-12.
Conference Favorites
The Mustangs have swept AAC weekly awards three of four possible times in 2021-22, picking up seven of eight possible honors this season.
Jan. 18
Ilektra Lebl
Lebl turned in four solo first-place swims for SMU against UNT and Tulane. Lebl won the 200 back and the 1650 free against UNT and added gold medal swims in the 500 free and 400 IM against Tulane.

Nicole Stambo
Stambo posted two event victories and three NCAA Zone scores for SMU in dual wins against UNT and Tulane. Stambo was the winner off 1 meter with a score of 307.20 and added a runner-up 3 meter score of 321.05 points, both NCAA Zone scores, in the meet against UNT. Stambo added a win and NCAA Zone score of 284.85 points on 3 meter against Tulane.
Nov. 23
Ilektra Lebl
Lebl picked up a pair of individual wins and a relay victory at the SMU Invite. Lebl swam the fastest 500 freestyle time in the conference this season with an NCAA B-cut showing of 4:45.10 and added the second-fastest 400 IM effort of the year in 4:16.13. Lebl also led off the 800 free relay for the Mustangs that took first place with a meet record time of 7:20.72.
Nicole Stambo
Stambo turned in a career performance at the Invite. Stambo scored 285.75 points to win 1 meter, with a career-best 309.55 in prelims. Stambo added another NCAA Zone score of 264.30 to win platform.
Nov. 2
Gabi Grobler
Grobler was a double event winner in the dual victory at TCU. Grobler swam the third-fastest 200 backstroke time of the season in the conference, clocking in at 2:01.65 to take the win for SMU. Grobler also led the charge of three Mustangs on the podium in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.10.
Johanna Holloway
Holloway found the podium twice at TCU, winning 3 meter and finishing second on 1 meter. Both performances met the NCAA Zone threshold.
Oct. 12
Gabi Grobler
Grobler turned in a strong performance for SMU in the season-opening SMU Classic, which featured four top-25 programs in the field. Grobler was the runner-up in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.12, not only a PR in the event but also an NCAA B cut, and also posted the top conference times of the season in the 100 back (:54.13), 200 back (1:58.67) and 100 breast (1:04.10).

League Leaders
The Mustangs lead The American in 10 of 13 individual swimming events this season. They also have 18 top-three individual times. SMU relays hold three of the top spots with the additional two ranking second.

The Mustangs opened the 2021-22 season listed among those receiving votes in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25 Division I Preseason Poll.
Collins Honored As CSCAA 100 Greatest Coaches
Head CoachÂ
Steve Collins was named to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) list of 100 Greatest Swimming & Diving Coaches of the Past 100 Years. The list was released as part of the organization's Centennial Celebration. Just over 500 coaches were nominated. A blue ribbon committee of fifty eight voters selected from 263 finalists, each focusing on a particular sport (swimming or diving) and Division.
Collins is in his 36th season as head coach of the women's swimming and diving team. A two-time NCAA Coach of the Year and 11-time conference Coach of the Year, Collins has led the Mustangs to 17 conference championships and has made an appearance at the NCAA Championships on 34 occasions. During his tenure, SMU has 15 top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, nine of those in the top five.
All-American Returners
Five members of the SMU women's swimming and diving program earned College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honors for their work in the pool and in the classroom following the 2020-21 season.
To be selected as a member of the CSCAA Scholar All-America first team as an individual, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade-point-average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.

Gabi Grobler were honored. The pair of captains combined for four total relay all-conference performances, while Grossklaus was the conference champion in the 200 fly.

Holt Hickman Outdoor Pool Is Coming To The Hilltop
With a $2.5M gift from the Hickman family, SMU will soon break ground for a new eight-lane, 50-meter by 25-yard outdoor pool, with 1- and 3-meter diving boards. The $11M project will also include a 20-foot by 40-foot instructional pool that will be used for lessons and rehab/therapy. The addition of the outdoor pool will complete the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center, making SMU the only University in the country with both indoor and outdoor Olympic pools in one facility, further cementing SMU's swimming and diving facility as one of the finest in college athletics.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place prior to the Mustangs' Senior Day Match up against No. 2 Texas on Feb. 4.
American Championships Return to Dallas
For the second consecutive year, SMU will host the American Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships. The event is set to take place Feb. 16-19 at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.
