IRVING, Texas (SMU/American Athletic Conference) –
Marcus Weathers was named the co-American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Weathers averaged 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals while shooting 73.9% (17-23) from the field, 2-of-3 on threes and 8-of-8 on free throws. He led the team in scoring in both victories, scoring 17 in the
74-54 win at USF on Wednesday and then a season-high 27 points with nine rebounds in
Saturday's 69-61 triumph over Temple.
For the season, Weathers is averaging 11.7 points (16
th AAC), 7.0 rebounds (2
nd AAC), 1.8 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.7 blocks. He is hitting 56.4% on field goals, 41.4% on 3-pointers (12-29) and 75.0% at the free-throw line (11
th AAC). He leads The American with four double-doubles while his 2.2 offensive rebounds per game rank seventh in the league and he is fourth in defensive rebounds at 4.8 per game.
This is the fourth AAC Player of the Week award for the Mustangs this season.
Kendric Davis has taken home the honor three times in 2021-22. Davis is on the 2021-22 Wooden Award Watch List, Naismith Trophy Watch List, Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award Watch List, Lute Olson National Player of the Year Watch List and was a unanimous preseason All-American Athletic Conference First-Team selection.
The Mustangs are 16-4 overall and 7-1 in the American Athletic Conference. SMU has won five straight and 13 of its last 14 overall.
