Results 

SMU placed fifth in a field of nearly 40 teams at the Arturo Barrios Invitational at Texas A&M this morning. Nine other teams from the South Central Region competed, and SMU placed ahead of all but one, including fourth-ranked LSU. Texas A&M beat the Mustangs by 35 points placing fourth. Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said today was positive for the team. 

"The race went out fast," Haynes said. "We were out in the top half, and we're able to manage ourselves mid-race. The team put together complete races at the right time." 

Sophomore Kaitlyn Gearin was first across the line for the Mustangs running a time of 20:58.2 in the 6k race – good enough for 15th. Maddie Hulcy followed Gearin in 27th with a time of 21:16.7, and Alanis Robineau Fauvey was in 35th. 

"Kaitlyn, Maddie and Alanis went for it in the top 20-30," Haynes said. "Jessie and Leoni closed the gap to secure a best finish for the team this season."

With Jessie Crowley and Leoni Mierswa's finishes of 65th and 71th, the team's individual race time average was 21:35.34. 

The team will be back in action on October 28 for the AAC Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
