CARMEL, Calif. (SMU) – SMU men's golf holds a share of sixth place after a 36 hole day at the Cal Poly Invitational on Monday.

The Mustangs (281+288=569, -7) posted a seven-under round one to come out the gate in fourth place. In round two, the Mustangs shot even par to find themselves in a tie for sixth in a crowded field, just three shots back of third place. Northwestern leads the field for the lead at 26-under.Â

Nathan Petronzio led the Mustangs in round one with a four-under 68 performance. In round two, the junior carded even par to finish in a tie for 13th place on the day. Petronzio is looking for his third straight top-15 finish in round three on Tuesday.

Zach Kingsland started the day with a three-under round one, birdieing three of the final four holes. Â In round two, Kingsland birdied three of the final four holes and finds himself alongside Petronzio in 13
th place. Â The pair are four shots back of the leaders, Owen Avrit of Oregon and Shubham Jaglan of South Florida.

Graduate senior
Justin Thompson started the day with two birdies and wound up carding even par in round one. He shot even par in round two to conclude the day in a share of 29th place.Â
Will Sides shot even par in round one and started round two with three birdies in the first five holes. Sides finished the day in a share of 39th place. Fellow freshmanÂ
Christian Clark sits in a tie for 61st.
