Mustangs Wrap Up Night One Action At SMU Classic

Night One Results

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team completed night one of action at the two-day SMU Classic held at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.

The event welcomes top competition from around the country and features eight swimmers and one diver from each competing institution. Each swimmer may compete in three events per day, and events are contested in two heats, with one swimmer from each school in each heat. Divers will compete on 1 and 3 meter.

In 400-yard individual medley action, Jenna Watson finished fourth in the Championship Final with a career-best 4:18.58. Jimena Leguizamon Leal was fifth in the Consolation Final, turning in a time of 4:24.73 in her first collegiate action.

Watson posted her second career mark of the evening to finish sixth in the 100 breast in a time of 1:03.13. Maxine Parkinson (1:04.25) joined her in the event, finishing sixth in the Consolation Final.

SMU's 50 freestylers both posted fourth place finishes in their respective finals. In the A Final, Johanna Gudmundsdottir covered the distance in 22.83, while Lucrezia Napoletano clocked a 23.03 in the B Final.

The 100 fly saw a fifth place finish from Parkinson (54.82) in the A Final and a fourth place time of 55.62 from Gudmundsdottir in the B Final.

Kate Janzen paced the Mustangs in the 100 back with a time of 55.62, good for fifth. In the B Final, Leguizamon Leal (54.23) finished fourth.

Indra Vandenbussche (1:51.85) led SMU in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing sixth, while Annabelle Corcoran also represented the Mustangs in the event, placing sixth in the Consolation Final and just off her career best at 1:52.88.

In diving action, Nicole Stambo finished sixth on 3 meter with a score of 228.20.

The Mustangs finished fifth in the closing 800 free relay, as Napoletano, Vandenbussche, Gudmundsdottir and Watson combined for a 7:20.96. The night opened with a sixth place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:44.50) from Janzen, Parkinson, Napoletano and Vandenbussche.
