Kaitlyn Gearin led the Mustangs with a ninth-place finish at this morning's South Central Regional meet – earning All-Region honors for the second year in a row. She ran a PR time of 20:38.8. The team placed fifth overall, which was true to their ranking heading into the meet. Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said the team achieved their goal by placing in top-5.

"Today was exciting," Haynes said. "Our placement was a three-spot improvement from last year and the highest team finish since 2017."

"I'm happy with my effort today and proud of the team," Gearin said. "We had our sights set on a higher team finish, but we are moving in the right direction and have come a long way. I am so grateful for all of my teammates, and it was fun to earn all-region honors with Maddie today."

Senior Maddie Hulcy placed 17th to also win All-Region honors. She ran a time of 20:57.6 -- a new PR to end her collegiate cross country career. Hulcy said the team competed against a lot of other strong teams today and thinks they put up a good fight.

"It's a little sad to end the season, but I'm happy to go out with a new PR and a major improvement from my performance at regionals last year," Hulcy said. "I always dreamed of being a collegiate athlete, so I'm really just feeling grateful for the opportunity to be here and compete with so many amazing women. I know this team has great things ahead."

Haynes said Gearin and Hulcy ran confidently and strong.

"They were both all-region, and Kaitlyn Gearin narrowly missed being an individual NCAA Championship qualifier," Haynes said.

Alanis Robineau-Fauvey was third across the line for the Mustangs running her best time this season of 21:27.7 -- good enough for 39th among the region. Macey Hilton and Leoni Mierswa ran together crossing the line only .7 seconds apart for 51st and 53rd. Lior Kremer and Jessie Crowley also crossed the finish line together only a second apart in 62 and 63rd.

"We close the season with everyone having their 6k bests during this 2022 XC campaign," Haynes said.
