DALLAS (SMU) – Nicole Stambo earned a victory, while
Lucrezia Napoletano secured runner-up honors to lead the Mustangs on night two of the three-day SMU Invitational.
Stambo grabbed the top spot on 3 meter with a six-round 305.45, while
Jaclynn Fowler rounded out the podium with a third-place finish at 292.45. Both scores kept the Mustangs above the NCAA Zone score of 280.00.
In 200-yard freestyle action, Napoletano led the Mustangs with an impressive 1:47.81 for runner-up honors. She was joined in finals by
Indra Vandenbussche (1:50.46) and
Valentina Becerra (1:53.34) who finished 11th and 16th, respectively, in the Consolation Final.
Jimena Leguizamon Leal climbed one spot form her preliminary performance to place fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in a time of 54.94. In the B Final, three Mustangs took to the pool with
Kate Janzen (11th, 55.78),
Olivia Lind (13th, 57.00) and
Caroline Sullivan (15th, 57.04) finishing in order.
As she did on night one,
Jenna Watson led the Mustangs in the individual medley, placing fifth in the 400-yard distance at 4:24.73.
Frederica Kizek jumped two spots from her prelims seed to win the Consolation Final, covering the distance in 4:24.39. Also coming out of the B Final were
Hannah Lockyer (12th, 4:28.09) and
Annabelle Corcoran (13th, 4:29.83).
A pair of swimmers represented SMU in the 100-yard breaststroke B Final, with
Maxine Parkinson (1:03.01) finishing 11th and
Maddy Lewis (1:03.18) 13th.
The Mustangs took fourth in the opening 200-yard medley relay and fifth in the 800-yard freestyle relay to close the night.
In the team scores, SMU sits fourth at 433.
The final day of action on Saturday includes the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, platform and 400 free relay.
