DALLAS (SMU) – The No. 1 SMU Equestrian team opens its home slate against No. 8 Baylor at the Dallas Equestrian Center Friday at 9 a.m.
UP TO THIS POINT
•   No. 1 SMU started the season taking down then-No. 1 Oklahoma State 10-9 on the road. The Mustangs snapped OSU's 16 home meet winning streak.
•   The Mustangs swept the Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) awards.
Elli Yeager 86 earned her the Fences MOP and
Taylor Madden was named the Flat MOP after her impressive outing. On the Western side,
Mallory Vroegh was crowned the Horsemanship MOP and
Taylor Zimmerman took home the Reining award.
ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
•   The Mustangs are coming off their fourth consecutive conference championship and second straight ECAC title in 2021-22, in a year that saw four NCEA All-America selections.Â
•   Â
Dani Latimer received the Reining MOP at the 2021-22 NCEA Championships. Nine Mustangs claimed ECAC postseason honors, including two Rider of the Year honors, one Freshman Rider of the Year title, and six All-Conference selections. The Mustangs took down second-ranked Auburn in convincing fashion, 12-8, to advance to the NCEA semifinals for the second consecutive year.
•    The Mustangs return all but two starters from last season's semifinal team. SMU is competing as an Independent in 2022-23.
IN THE RANKINGS
•    For the second consecutive week, the Mustangs checked in at No. 1 in the NCEA Dual Displine Rankings.Â
THE SERIES
•   SMU has won four consecutive meets against Baylor dating back to the 2017 season. The Mustangs are 4-13 against the Bears all-time. Â
