HOUSTON – In the final match as American Athletic Conference foes, SMU suffered a setback against No. 23 Houston at the Fertitta Center Sunday.

Facing a 2-0 deficit and a pair of match points, the Mustangs rallied to take game three 27-25.
Marieke van der Mark slammed home a kill, evening the score at 24-all. After a successful attack from the Cougars,
Jadyn Bauss tallied a pair of points, with a
Jentry Lamirand ace sandwiched between to secure the game.

In the final stanza, Houston built a 14-9 cushion, but the Mustangs closed to within two at the media timeout behind a 4-1 spurt. A kill off the right-arm of
Jamison Wheeler and a Cougars' miscue evened the game at 15-all. Houston closed with a 10-4 run to secure the victory.

SMU started slow, falling behind 13-2 in game one. The teams traded points over the last half of the frame, with the Mustangs outscoring Houston 13-12.

In set two the teams traded point for point, with six lead changes and 14 draws. With the score knotted at 20-all, the Cougars claimed five of the final seven points, grabbing a 2-0 advantage at the break.

SMU fell to 21-9 overall, including 14-4 in the AAC, while the Cougars moved to 27-2, 18-0.
