The Mustangs will split into two groups on Feb. 11 and 12 for two meets in a final weekend of competition before the Indoor Conference Championships. The distance squad will head to Vanderbilt's Music City Challenge while the rest of the team will take on competition at the Texas Tech Shootout.
"Our goals remain the same for both Texas Tech and Vanderbilt," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "While the groups may be split to two separate competitions, the women will look for individual improvements."
The Mustangs have 10 marks on the conference Top-20 list headed into the final weekend of indoor regular season. Whitney Williams remains in third for the 400 within the conference with a time 54.64, and Jada Laye holds the 15th best time in the 200 with a 24.80 second race.
For the distance squad, Steffi Jones holds two Top-20 times – one in the 800 and another in the mile. In the field events, Mustangs hold top positions in various events, included Raelyn Roberson in fourth for the long jump followed closely by Funminiyi Olajide, Olivia Dobson in the shot put and high jump, and Maykayla Jackson in the triple jump with a distance of 11.96 meters.
"Our larger team goal is to have those individual performances move to better conference and national placements on the overall descending order lists," Haynes said. "Everyone has been seeing marked improvements in training, and this weekend is where we see it translate to performance."
Action will begin at 3 p.m. at Texas Tech and 2:30 p.m. at Vanderbilt.
