Box Score

WACO, Texas (SMU) – Graduate senior Lexi Keberle led the way for the SMU women's tennis team on Friday, claiming a 7-6, 6-1 victory in the Mustangs' 6-1 loss at Baylor.

Keberle/Lana Mavor claimed a 6-4 win on court two against Baylor's Alina Shcherbinina/Anita Sahdiieva in doubles play. After climbing to a 4-0 lead and eying a shutout, the Baylor duo responded, closing the SMU lead to 5-4. Keberle/Mavor then shut the door on a Baylor comeback, winning the proceeding set and capping a 6-4 victory. With the win, the pair's dual doubles record improved to 2-1 on the season.

After the court two win and a 6-1 loss for Claudia Bartolome/Jackie Nylander, the court-three match, consisting of SMU's Nicole Petchey/Winslow Huth, was fated to determine the doubles result. After trading game wins throughout the set, both sides entered a tiebreaker to determine the point. After falling behind as far as 3-1 in the tiebreaker, the Mustang pair shortened the deficit at 4-3 before Baylor claimed the final three rallies to secure the doubles point for the Bears.

Mavor's win on court one in singles proved SMU's one win of the day. Her dual singles record improved to 4-2 with two consecutive wins.

On line four, Bartolome won her second set 6-4 after falling in the opening set to Shcherbinina. The tiebreaker ultimately fell to Shcherbinina 10-4.

Graduate senior Nicole Petchey narrowly fell 7-6, 6-4 on court five against Sahdiieva. Through 20 games, neither opponent was able to gain a two-game lead on the other until the 4-3 junction in the second set, when Sahdiieva claimed the final three games and the match point.

SMU (4-3, 1-0 AAC) plays in the final match of its six-opponent road trip on Saturday, when the Mustangs take on Mississippi State at 12 p.m.
