Mustangs (6-4, 1-0 AAC) Split Doubleheader Sunday

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team went 1-1 on a doubleheader Sunday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Sunday, falling 4-1 to Arkansas, followed by a 4-1 victory over UT Arlington.

On doubles court two, Lexi Keberle/Lana Mavor claimed a 6-3 win over Arkansas duo Laura Rijkers/Lenka Stara. The Mustang pair opened up a 3-0 lead before the Razorback pair responded with three game wins of their own, tying the match at three games apiece. Keberle/Mavor claimed the final three games on the way to a 6-3 win, improving the duo's dual doubles record to 3-2.

In singles, Keberle opened her first set with a 7-6 win over Arkansas' Tatum Rice. After falling two games behind at 4-2, the set fell to a tiebreaker at 6-6, in which the graduate senior won six straight rallies to claim victory and a one-set lead in the match. The second set was even at 4-4, before Keberle took the final two games to clinch the Mustangs' first point of the day. Against UTA, Keberle dispatched of UTA's Momoka Horiguchi 6-0, 6-1, improving her dual singles record to 6-3 on the year.

Junior Jackie Nylander earned a 6-4, 6-1 win against UTA's Carla Pons, handing the Maverick just the second loss of the spring season.

Nylander fell 6-4 in her opening set against Arkansas' Indianna Spinks, then responded with a 7-6 win in which the junior only allowed a single rally to fall Arkansas' way in the tiebreak. The two were tied at one game apiece before the match was called.

Junior Hadley Doyle split sets 3-6, 7-5 with Razorback opponent Kelly Keller. Doyle held her largest lead of the day at 3-0 in the final set before the match was called.

The Mustangs claimed 6-3 and 6-2 doubles wins on lines one and three against UTA, securing a 1-0 lead entering singles play. Nylander/Bartolome never gave up a lead during the set, holding a two-game lead or more through the end after initially being tied 2-2 through the first four games. The duo's win on line one was UTA's Momoka Horiguchi's first doubles loss of the season.

Drew Morris and Katherine Jakeway earned their first doubles win year over UTA's Carla Pons/Nika Novikova, handing the duo their second and first respective doubles losses of the season.
Petchey split the day's doubleheader in singles, clinching the match winner on court five against Paula Jimenez 6-2, 6-3, ending the day with a 4-3 dual singles record.

The Mustangs (6-4, 1-0 AAC) resume competition on Monday at 3 p.m. hosting Wisconsin at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.
