NEW ORLEANS, LA (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team downed Tulane on Sunday 5-2, improving to 4-0 against American Athletic Conference opponents this spring.

The Mustangs took an early 1-0 lead with 6-3 and 7-5 respective wins for duos Lexi Keberle/Claudia Bartolome and Nicole Petchey/Lana Mavor, winning five of their last six doubles points. Petchey/Mavor open the season 1-0 in their first pairing of the dual season, while Keberle/Bartolome improve to 2-0.

In singles, Keberle extended her win streak on line one to six straight, with a 6-2, 7-5 win against Tulane's Mackenzie Clark, snapping a five-match win streak which included a tiebreaker victory over a 125^th-ranked Auburn opponent. With the win, Keberle's record improves to a team-best 10-3.

On court six, Petchey earned her second-consecutive win, a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Brooke Theis, snapping a three-match win streak for the Tulane opposition and improving to 6-5 in dual singles.

Jackie Nylander defeated Kristen Borland 6-4, 7-6 to earn her second-straight win. In the match, Borland was seeking a third consecutive singles win, with her last loss occurring against Auburn on Feb. 20.

On court four, Bartolome shut out Tulane's Adelaide Lavery 6-0 in her opening set, before Lavery responded with a 6-4 win of her own to force a deciding set. In the third, Bartolome led two games to one, before winning four-straight to secure the win. Prior to the loss, Lavery had won three-straight, without dropping a match since Feb. 11 against Tulsa.

SMU (9-6, 4-0 AAC) returns to the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Sunday, March 20 for an afternoon meeting against VCU on ESPN+.
