Senior Spotlight – Devin Seek

Mar 2

Jumping Seat rider Devin Seek is our next rider featured in our 2022 Senior Spotlight Series. The Ocala, Florida native touches on her experiences as an SMU equestrian, and how her time as a Mustang has unfolded and been a part of her life.

As was the case with so many of her teammates, the city of Dallas was what initially caught the attention of Seek during her college search.
"I was excited to be able to have a college experience in a cool city like Dallas because it was so full of opportunity and had more to offer than other college towns. "
"Dallas as a college town is so full of opportunity, and just has more to offer than so many other college towns," Seek said. "I was excited to be able to have my college experience here, because I knew this place would give me the experience I wanted from my college years."

Seek spoke about many of her top memories throughout her experience, but explained how the best memories she will take with her from SMU and the team will be the ones that were not scripted:

"I'll take many good memories with me from this place, but the best times were the unplanned ones spent with some of my best friends that I've found here," Seek said, "I think the friends I've made and the good experiences we've had will make up most of the memories I look back on during my college years."

Reflecting on her four years as an SMU equestrian, Seek said that her biggest takeaway will be "to enjoy the moment and the experiences in your life because it all goes by in the blink of an eye.

"It's the silly moments spent with all of your teammates that you look back on and appreciate," Seek said.

During Seek's free time when she is not in class or riding, she enjoys meeting up with her friends and going to different places around Dallas such as Barley House and Truckyard, and harbors a love for the Mexican cuisine chain, Velvet Taco, as her favorite place to eat in the city.

"Even when I tell myself I'm going to try new places, somehow Velvet Taco always ends up at my doorstep," Seek said. "But all the food in Dallas is so good, you can't go wrong anywhere you go."

When it comes to her favorite horse of the many which SMU cares for, Seek expressed that Hamilton had stolen her heart over her years with the team.
"I think Hamilton has the best personality and he puts me in a good mood even when I'm just saying hello to him," Seek said. "I also think he's the most fun to ride, but I might be a little biased because in my eyes he can do no wrong."

Seek plans to move back home to Florida to pursue a job in engineering management, and continue showing her horse, Bugsy, after graduating from SMU in May.
