No. 1-Seed Mustangs Advance To Saturday's ECAC Championship Final

HARRINGTON, Del. (SMU)
- The No. 1-seeded Mustangs used a second-half surge to defeat No. 4 seed UC Davis by a final score of 10-9 and advance to the ECAC Championship Final at Quillen Arena on Friday afternoon.

One Mustang earned Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors as SMU (8-6, 4-1 ECAC) met the Aggies (4-7, 1-3 ECAC) in the conference's semifinal matchup.

UC Davis jumped into an early lead with a 3-2 win in Fences to start the day's action. SMU senior Devin Seek and junior Emma Jolly nabbed points over their opponents with scores of 132 and 153, respectively.

The Western team brought the Mustangs within one at the halfway mark after winning two points and tying one in Reining. Junior Taylor Zimmerman posted a 129 for the first SMU point of the event before junior Dani Latimer tied her opponent with a score of 139.5 and graduate student Jill Pfisthner tallied an event-high 148.

SMU's Western riders kept their momentum coming out of the break as the Mustangs won four of five Horsemanship points. Sophomore Nya Kearns defeated her Aggie opponent with an impressive score of 157.5, earning her the event's MOP award. Senior Mallory Vroegh, junior Lily Anderson and senior Megan Waldron won three straight points to finish off the event with scores of 153, 150.5 and 152.5.

Sophomore Taylor Madden and graduate student Madi Johnson won the first two points in Flat to finish out the day's action and clinch the semifinal win for the Mustangs. Madden topped her opponent 149-99.5 while Johnson won 152-147 to lead SMU to an eventual 10-9 victory.

SMU seeks it fourth consecutive conference title, and second straight ECAC crown, on Saturday in the championship matchup. Action at host-team Delaware State's Quillen Arena is slated to start at 8:15 a.m. CT. Follow along via live stats and live stream
