DALLAS, Texas (SMU) -- SMU Track and Field is sending their distance runners to the West Coast this week for competition at San Francisco State on Thursday and Friday. The runners had last weekend off from competition while the jumpers and sprinters were in Austin and San Marcos, and they will look to match their teammates' successes in personal records and seasonal bests during their races this weekend.Â
"Similarly to our previous weekend of sprints, jumps, hurdles and multi athletes in Texas, the distance women are looking to see consistency in times and open closely to where we left off our indoor campaign," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. Â
Four distance athletes are currently ranked within the top 20 in the conference in the distance races the Mustangs participated in at TCU: the 800 and the 1500.Â
Steffi Jones is currently ranked 11th in the 800 with a time of 2:14.01. Jones is sixth in the 1500 with her time of 4:35.28. She is followed closely by Leoni Mierswa who ran 4:36.16 and is in seventh. Kendall Saeger is 15th with 4:42.51 and Mia Olsen is 20th with 4:44.90.Â
"The goal with this competition in San Francisco is to connect with the pace leaders early and remain engaged through the distances," Haynes said.Â
Action starts at 11:30 a.m. (CT) on Thursday.Â
