Mustangs Achieve 10 Personal Bests at Texas A&M to End the Regular Season

The Mustangs wrapped up their regular season yesterday at Texas A&M with 10 personal bests and multiple season bests – the perfect way to head into the championship part of the season. The team even picked up a few SMU Top-10 titles with Whitney Williams now fourth in 400-meter SMU history and Maykayla Jackson eighth for the triple jump.

"I think the women came out here and gave it their all and set the tone for the conference meet," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "Whitney Williams had a brilliant meet with a new PB in the open 400."

Williams ran a time of 54.05 -- her best time for outdoor and only .05 seconds off her indoor personal best. Although this weekend was a success for Williams due to her time drop, she is still hungry for more.

"It's not where I want to be, but it's a step up from where I was so I am happy," Williams said.

Olivia Dobson performed in a handful of events this weekend as preparations for the Heptathlon at the American Athletic Conference Championships. She picked up a new personal best in the 100H with a time of 15.02 -- 11th in SMU's history.

"My first two events – long jump and javelin – didn't go as well as I'd hoped, but I put that behind me to focus on the hurdles and came out with a PR, which I was very happy about," Dobson said. "I know I have sub-15 seconds in me as I stumbled at the end. So, I'm very excited to see what conference will hold!"

Haynes said Dobson achieved that new personal best time while making it look easy.

Both Funminiyi Olajide and Raelyn Roberson performed their best all season in the long jump, placing third and fourth. Olajide's furthest jump was 6.26m and Roberson's was 6.18m.

"I'm very happy with the consistency I've had these past two meets," Roberson said. "I'm excited to see what I put together at conference along with the rest of the team."

Fellow jumper Maykayla Jackson achieved a personal best in the long jump this weekend with a jump of 5.58 meters. She did the same in the triple jump with 11.94 meters, which got her on the SMU Top-10 list.

"The trio of jumpers came with intensity and put out season bests, super consistent jump series, and PBs," Haynes said.

Freshman Emily Waller achieved her best time thus far in the 400 Hurdles with 1:01.79. Fellow Freshman Kendall Saeger and Isabelle LeBey also achieved personal bests in their distance events.

The Mustangs will look to keep this momentum going as they hit the track again at Wichita State for the AAC Championships May 13-15.
