CHOUDRANT, La. (SMU) – Three Mustangs finished in the top 20, while the team turned in a ninth-place finish to open the season at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech.
As a team, SMU improved on its placement after two rounds going 2-under 286 over the final 18 holes. For the tournament, the Mustangs were 4-under 860.
Graduate
Justin Thompson and freshman
Zachary Kingsland led the Mustangs, finishing tied for 19th at 4-under 212 as part of the 124-player field. Thompson went 2-under on the final 18 to climb eights spots on the individual leaderboard, while Kingsland closed out his tournament shooting 1-over in the final round.
Nathan Petronzio's team-best 69 on the final day closed his tournament at 3-under 213.
Thompson and Petronzio each finished the tournament with all three rounds at par or better.
Dawson Ovard finished +10 over 54 holes, while
Trip Carter was +11.
Individual
Christian Clark finished tied for 16th at the event firing a 5-under 211, which included a team-best 66 on day one. Clark carded the second most birdies of all players in the tournament, turning in 15 over three rounds.
