SMU returns to action Monday for the two-day Inverness Intercollegiate hosted by Toledo at the Inverness Club – a 7,302-yard, par-71 course. Play begins with 36 holes on Monday (7:45 a.m. CT shotgun start) followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday (8:30 a.m. tee times on Holes No. 1 and 10).

Monday's feature hole will be broadcast on YouTube starting at 9 a.m. CT, while Tuesday's live ESPN+ broadcast will begin at 11 a.m.

The Field
SMU joins a 16-team field including host-Toledo, Charlotte, ETSU, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Louisville, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Purdue, USC, South Alabama, Texas Tech, Virginia and Washington.

Nathan Petronzio // The junior is coming off a championship campaign that saw him win the American Athletic Conference individual title. Petronzio was the third Mustang to win the AAC title, joining Bryson DeChambeau (2014) and Mac Meissner (2019).  The All-AAC selection went on to finish 39th at the NCAA Bryan Regional. In 33 rounds, Petronzio posted a scoring average of 72.27, eight rounds in the 60s and 14 at par or better. He is currently tied for fifth on the SMU career scoring average list at 72.75.
 
Justin Thompson // Back for a fifth season after taking advantage of the COVID year, Thompson registered a stroke average of 73.61 in 18 rounds for the Mustangs in 2021-22. His best finish was 22nd at the AAC Championships. Thompson is 10th on SMU's career scoring average list at 73.70. He was one of three Mustangs to finish in the top 20 at the season-opening tournament, finishing tied for 19th at -4.
 
Holden Wisener // This will be Wisener's first action of the 2022-23 season. He played in seven tournaments in his first season at SMU after transferring into the program, posting a 73.00 scoring average, five rounds in the 60s and seven at par or better.

Zachary Kingsland // Kingsland joined Thompson at -4 at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate to open the year.

Christian Clark // Clarke opened his first collegiate season playing as an individual and leading the Mustangs at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, finishing tied for 16th at -5.

In The Rankings
SMU closed the 2021-22 season at No. 40 in the final Golfstat rankings and No. 37 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

Last Time Out
Three Mustangs finished in the top 20, while the team turned in a ninth-place finish to open the season at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech.

As a team, SMU improved on its placement after two rounds going 2-under 286 over the final 18 holes. For the tournament, the Mustangs were 4-under 860.

Graduate Justin Thompson and freshman Zachary Kingsland led the Mustangs, finishing tied for 19th at 4-under 212 as part of the 124-player field. Nathan Petronzio's team-best 69 on the final day closed his tournament at 3-under 213. Dawson Ovard finished +10 over 54 holes, while Trip Carter was +11.

Individual Christian Clark finished tied for 16th at the event firing a 5-under 211, which included a team-best 66 on day one. Clark carded the second most birdies of all players in the tournament, turning in 15 over three rounds.
 
Mustangs In The Postseason
The 2021-22 season marked the Mustangs' 24th appearance in an NCAA regional, and third-consecutive. Prior to the 2022 event, the Mustangs finished in the top four in consecutive appearances, including tying for the win at the 2015 event in Noblesville, Indiana.
