DALLAS (SMU) –
SMU suffered a setback in straight sets (21-25, 17-25, 20-25) to No. 25 UCF at Moody Coliseum Sunday.

The teams went toe-to-toe in the opening set, exchanging the lead three times, with seven ties. A 6-1 spurt by UCF opened a six-point cushion at 21-15 and withstood a rally by the Mustangs.

SMU fell behind 8-3 early in the second, before slicing the deficit to four at 15-11, the smallest deficit after the initial run by the Knights. Despite holding the UCF offense to just 10 kills on 34 swings, with five errors, the Mustangs fell by the wayside.

Looking to force a fourth set, the Mustangs sprinted out to a 12-5 advantage, forcing UCF to call a timeout. The offense continued to click for the home side but the pause in action proved to be advantageous for the Knights, which grabbed the final lead change of the match at 15-14.
