Alanis Robineau Fauvey Leads SMU at Notre Dame

This morning, the Mustangs took on some of the best teams in the country at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. Graduate transfer Alanis Robineau Fauvey led SMU in the race running a time of 17:23.7 -- good enough for 83rd in the large field of athletes.

"Today, we got a taste of the best competition in the nation," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "This course is tactically challenging with turns and narrowing spaces. We were not effective with our positioning as a team early and paid the price in the overall result."

The Mustangs placed 19th overall, however, there were smaller victories achieved in Indiana.

"We had some very positive performances from Alanis, Maddie, Kaitlyn and Macey," Haynes said.

Maddie Hulcy went into this race hoping to obtain a new PR in the 5k and was able to accomplish that with her time of 17:29.7.

"Today we raced some of the best teams in the country, so it was unlike any other competition I've had in college," Hulcy said. "Although it wasn't the team result we wanted, I think the experience was really valuable and everyone has something they can learn and apply to the rest of the season."

Hulcy placed 91st shortly followed by Katilyn Gearin in 97th with a time of 17:34.2. Freshman Macey Hilton ran a time of 17:52.5 for 122nd.

The Mustangs will be back in action at Texas A&M on October 15th for one last meet before the AAC Championships.

"We still have big goals for conference and regionals, and this race doesn't change that at all," Hulcy said.
