DALLAS (SMU) –
Julissa Cisneros scored in the 3rd and 7th minutes to give No. 16 SMU a quick 2-0 lead en route to a 3-0 victory over North Texas at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium on Thursday.
Cisneros found the lower right corner in the 3
rd minute off a feed from
Sammy Nieves. In the 7
th minute,
Mackenzie Rudden got the assist after her shot hit the crossbar and rebounded directly to Cisneros for a header into the back of the net. Cisneros is leading the Mustangs (4-0-2) with four goals this season.
Kaya Lee scored an insurance goal for the Mustangs in the 82nd minute. Lee took a pass from
Katina Tsapos and spun it past the goalkeeper for a 3-0 advantage.
The SMU offense outshot UNT 9-3 in the first half and 16-7 for the game.
Samantha Estrada had three saves, including a diving save to preserve the shutout on an attempt by UNT's Grace Dennis in the 68
th minute. Estrada played almost 72 minutes against the Mean Green (4-2-1) before
Tatum Sutherland came on to finish the game in net. The Mustangs have recorded three shutouts in their past four matches.
Through four home games, the SMU defense has allowed just one goal at Washburne Stadium. The lone opposing tally was in the 8
th minute of the season opener against Rice as the Mustangs have gone 352:40 without allowing a goal at home. The Mustangs moved to 4-0-0 at Washburne Stadium this season, and have a 12-1-1 record at home since the start of last season.
SMU is unbeaten through the first six matches of the season for the first time since 1995 when the Mustangs made it 24 matches en route to a 23-1-1 finish then ended in the College Cup semifinals.
