DALLAS (SMU) – Peyton Annen scored SMU's match-winning goal off an assist from
Leah Chancey to seal the Mustangs' 1-0 shutout victory over UTSA on Thursday at Washburne Stadium.
SMU improves to 6-3-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in conference play.
Annen's goal in the 16
th minute marked her second match-winning goal of the season, with
Leah Chancey tallying her first career assist on the play. Annen's first goal of the year came in SMU's 1-0 victory over Oklahoma State on Sept. 10.

SMU earned its third clean sheet of its last five matches, including its second in conference play.
Samantha Estrada tallied three saves for the Mustangs, bumping her season total to 42. Estrada entered the match with second ranked saves-per-game average in the AAC (4.88). Thursday's win over the Roadrunners counts as Estrada's second 90-minute clean sheet of the season, the first coming versus Oklahoma State.

SMU maintained composure throughout the physical match, besting UTSA in both shots (10-8) and corner kicks (4-3). The forward duo of
Nyah Rose and
Emma Alvord kept the Roadrunners' backline on the defensive with multiple scoring opportunities, including two shots on goal from Alvord in the first half.
The Mustangs have now allowed one or fewer goals in 22 of 29 matches played under Head Coach
Nicole Nelson. Â UTSA's three shots on goal mark the fifth time this season SMU has held its opponent to four or fewer shots on goal.
SMU travels to Boca Raton, Fla. to take on Florida Atlantic in its first of a two-game stint in the Sunshine State. The Mustangs will face the Owls at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12.
