No. 4 Mustangs Earn 2-2 Draw at No. 25 FIU

Miami, Fla. (SMU) — No. 4 SMU played to a 2-2 draw at No. 25 FIU on Sunday.

Hermann Trophy Watch List member Jelldrik Dallmann's ninth goal of the season was scored in the 27th minute off of a penalty kick. Dallmann entered the match being ranked No. 1 in goals scored in the American Athletic Conference and tied for eighth nationally.

Seven minutes prior at the 20th minute mark, freshman Niv Berkovitz — hailing to the Hilltop from Israel — scored his second goal of his collegiate career off of an assist from Hermann Trophy Watch List Member Jelldrik Dallmann.

"The last two days have been some of the most difficult days of my life,"  Berkovitz said. "I hope all of my friends will come back safely — this was for them — and I want to thank everyone for their support."

"When I scored the goal, it was a really special moment that I will never forget," Berkvotiz said. "I am grateful for every single player who has supported me and given me the power to keep playing. The coaching staff has done everything they can to make me feel better."

FIU (6-2-3) managed to slip two past goalkeeper Cole Johnson, who went on to post one save throughout the contest. The senior has been recognized by the AAC for his season's play by being named conference goalkeeper of the week three times.

With six minutes remaining in the first half, FIU's Edgar Aguilar scored in the bottom right off an assist from midfielder Tim Schels. Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro followed with a goal in the 54th minute mark, assisted by Diego Castillo in the 54th minute.

SMU (8-1-2) outshot the Panthers 8-5 by full time, including three total shots from Berkovitz and Dallmann each. Midfielders Alex Salvo and Alexander Petreaus followed with one each.

Up next, the Mustangs return to Washburne to take on FAU on Saturday, Oct. 14. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be livestreamed for ESPN+.
